Rear parking sensors

Featured Replies

Hi my 2007 Fabia mk2 1.4 the parking sensors have not worked since I’ve had it purchased in July I use to get a short tone and then a long one I tried all the checks listed on this site with no luck, then I upgraded my radio to the Amundsen with sat nav and now I don’t get any sound.

My thoughts are why play around with it when you can buy a rev kit complete (which just gives a tone when your near something) for the price of one original sensor, fitted one of these to my last car a valve c70 and it worked fine paid £16 off eBay.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Mine packed in on my MK2 but the sound bleeper was in the centre pillar passenger side and control unit on my estate was behind the right rear boot panel, as you may have the same issue my sensors were crapped and at £96 each it's a bit steep to replace the 4 of them, don't know if you will have the same problem but the dealers told me the right rear sensor had gone but in fact it was the left rear sensor almost as if the system is round the wrong way when showing faults

Bought a system with 4 sensors  that were silver and not far away from the car colour, the hardest part was fitting the sensors as the estate bumper had to e removed and the old sensor cut away from the bumper on the rear, they seem to be glued or moulded  into the bracket on the bumper, if you go careful you can get the old ones out by drilling centre and cutting away plastic to give you some thing to fit the new sensors to, i found the 2 tube resin glue quick dry ideal for fixing the new sensors in place, i just picked up the live from reversing light to power sensors and had to earth each one to the metal bodywork inside boot area managed to get sounder in the back panel near to rear of the car and used mounting tape to stick it there and  although not the same as original it's not to bad does the job, sorry can't send any pics car was written off in 2019 and we now have a MK3 estate

Hi thanks for the reply it’s a shame if the sensors are glued or moulded into the bumper as this will extend the time it takes to fit new ones, I was already under the impression that the rear bumper had to be removed so I guess I will need to get a 2 pack glue for fixing.

When I first had the car I purchased a small quantity of paint to do a repair so matching the sensors should not be a problem, my last lot of sensors came with a cutter the correct size for fitting them I think it’s about 19-20mm do you remember how big the hole in the bumper was once you had removed the old ones.

Can any one tell me if I get an auto electrician to plug into my car can he tell me what’s wrong with the sensors, or can I electrically test them with a multimeter ?

They can be tested with a MK1 earhole!

Scan it with VCDS, it will tell you the faulty sensor. They click into the rear bumper, which is easy to remove. If your sensors are colour coded painted to match then some touch up paint on the replacement before clicking it back in.

Hi, What are the tests that you have done? The best is the VCDS or VCP mentioned by aubrey. You will also be able to hear a subtle clicking when the igntion is on and the car in reverse if you go very close to the sensors. The sensor that is broken, will not click.

You might not get anything since you put the Amundsen in because the CanBus system of your car and the Amundsen need an adapter to work, but I am not sure you get the display that you may get on the Dance Radio. A pre Fl FII uses a Canbus 1.6 and Amundsen Canbus 2.0.

Hi thanks for the reply the only checks I have done is the one you mentioned putting on the ignition and trying each sensor however I get no sound out of any of them, with regards to the Amundsen + the adapter was fitted but I’m not concerned about not getting a display if it does great I just want the sound, prior to fitting the Amundsen I used to get a short tone followed by a longer tone now I just get the short tone when I select reverse.

So I’m assuming if I get a VCDS OR VCP they will tell me what I need to replace ?

I also could not hear any clicking, I did try that as I read about that too. But yes VCDS details the exact sensor(s) that is faulty.

Test the replaced sensor before fitting the bumper back on to ensure all is good. I had a few sensors failed and I had trouble with all the non VW ones that are available to buy, none that I tried lasted long. In the end I replaced all 4 with the real VW part and had no issues since.
