VRS mk4 Sound acutator

Featured Replies

Hey!
i just collected my brand new vrs, but when driving and in DCC - i cannot find/see any of “vehicle sound” options. It seems like sound acutator is disabled or is not in my spec ??
i have Canton and DCC in my spec and the trim is one of the highest...

what could it be, maybe i am missing some settings? :(

We have a few members including myself who have non dcc cars. No option to turn it on that I can find. Some YouTube videos of differing markets do show it’s available. I’m hopeful it will come as a software update if the hardware is there

I also think there was a member that was going to enquire with his dealer. All my local dealers are closed as a result of lockdown

Hmmm that is interesting, as i do have DCC and in individual - it is missing “engine sound”..  could it be that it needs to be activated vis VCDS ? 🤔

Possibly but I think Vcds is still working on this and the mk8 golf etc

Correct. A guy already wanted to tune his MK4 VRS and they couldn't even access the computer.

terrible, i get they want to earn the profit of stuff being done rather then ya self but they dont even offer anything if you get what im saying. Hopefully they find a work around it all

I'm sure they will find a way. I assume this is all due the Dieselgate scandal and VW tries really hard to prevent any unauthorized access to the new cars computers.

Hi, not sound actuator related, but can you give some first impressions on Canton? Have you any images of the door speaker grills and subwoofer you could share?
Cheers. 👍🏼

I am very interested to this as well, regarding canton in octavia

I'm a bit disappointed with the woofer and the lack of bass kick. Although it is much better if I listen to the music through my phone.

How about spotify? is that better, since i do not listen to radio at all, only spotify

cheers

I tried youtube. It was quite a difference comparing to the Radio.

Thanks for your update. These things take a little time to loosen up.
I currently have 2017 5series with bass speakers that are under the front seats.
They were pretty poor for the first 12 months or so, but have become much better over the last couple of years and now they really do pack a punch.
I do agree though that the sound can vary greatly depending on the source. 👍🏼

Most people turn off the sound actuator as they sound pants. I cant understand why anyone would wantnto actually activate it.

Because if you turn it off, car doesn't make any sound at all.

I don't like particularly how it sounds, but it's better than without it. You get at least a bit of a filling being in sports car.

I’m in this camp and hoping mine doesn’t come with an actuator (or sound enabled via the stereo if this is what the mk4 has), or at the very least the ability to disable it in all modes (inc normal if this is the default).

The bit I most don't like is there's a gap between turning the engine on and the fake noise starting. As soon as someone finds a way to turn it off please let me know!

individual mode is where you set all up as you want

Just collected my VRS and the actuator is louder than my old mk3 even in Normal mode, I have turned it of in Individual, does anyone know how to make the car start up in individual mode or remember the last drive mode

congrats on getting car, when you placed order?

do you have canton sound system?

as for actuator, there are probably 2 options either some fuse you can remove or code that thing.

but i must say i am surprised that even in normal mode its on, i did  not observe actuator sound while i had my test drive

Ordered Beginning of November and Build week was late Dec

Added only a few options so Canton & Wireless Charging

The actuator is noticeable in normal mode, some of the early demos I believe did not even have the actuator (was hoping mine was an early enough build I would not have one at all :) )

The demo I drove didn't have it so I'd hoped UK models were coming without...I'm assuming that if the new one is piped via the stereo rather than separate hardware that it's harder to disable than pulling a fuse (at least until OBD / VDCS become compatible with the latest models) in which case I'll be asking the question of my dealer if it's obtrusive (I realise why some people may want it, but if I wanted a V/flat 6 I'd have bought one...I think it's so subjective that it should be able to be disabled by default, not have to go into an individual mode to do so)

That actuator should be easy fix, like i mentioned before. That explains why in my first drive i did not hear a thing when i pushed the car.

Please give your thought on Canton, since i ordered car with it as well and had no chance to listen it before ordering.

I placed order 8th February.
