Low mileage Coolant Leak

Featured Replies

Octavia vRS Petrol.

It developed a slight coolant leak and it's been suggested that it's probably coming from the main water pump.

Thing is the car's only done less than 39k, which seems very low to need a replacement water pump.

Any thoughts as to other likely sources?

It could be anywhere!

Remove the engine lower guard and investigate for external leaks, if you don't see anything have a coolant sniff test done.

Well, not quite anywhere, but most cars have their various weak points, points which tend be common "failures".

That's what I was asking, are there any such common weak points where the leak may occur on this model.

But maybe someone else could be more specific - apart from looking for a leak!

You should have been more specific in your original question.

Possibly... my mistake, I never thought anyone would be bright enough to suggest looking for a leak! :smirk:

What may help you is looking for white/pink residue when looking around the radiator and all coolant pipes and joints. Best from underneath and above engine as appropriate.

I think I'll just forget this. Too many people seem to have too much time on their hands. Blame the lockdown!
