Steering wheel swap for a VW

Featured Replies

Hello!

New here and writing cause I can’t seem to find exact information online. My question is - are the VW and Skoda steering wheels interchangeable?

I found a carbon steering wheel that is for the Golf mk7 and the shape looks about right. Its only the steering without the airbag and multifunction buttons so would it be possible to transfer them from my superb steering wheel? I don’t have any paddle shifters. Has anybody done this before?

Thanks for any info!

Pretty sure you'll need the Golf airbag and buttons as they are likely a different shape to your existing Skoda ones.

No idea if the Golf buttons will work on a Skoda I'm afraid :)

There is an alcantara version with flatbottom that's Skoda genuine replacement. Got it in my Superb. Not quite VW but different and defo cheaper than VW

I have that wheel too Mario, waiting to be fitted. I’m just trying to work out whether I need to disconnect the battery to do it?

I have the correct spline socket and replacement nut to do it. Other concern is if you don’t disconnect the battery, how do you stop the horn sounding when you clip the airbag back in?

Should be a lot warmer than the standard leather wheel on these cold winter mornings though.

Just do it in one go and put up with the short honk.  That's what I did when fitting a paddle shift wheel.

This. Or pull the horn fuse out. That's what I did. It flagged a single horn fault on vcds (which doesn't matter of course!)
