Diagnostic tool to clear SRS / airbag error, Octavia II FL

Featured Replies

Replaced the speedo dial last night and after messing around the instrument cluster, the Airbag warning light remains on. Any idea of a reasonably priced diag tool that could reset the warning? Ebay lists a few but no idea if the <£30 units can clear errors from an Octavia II facelift model.

Most people here tend to use VCDS or OBDeleven but both are more than £30.

Where are you based? A local member might be able to reset the airbag light for you :)

I bought a £5 Bluetooth elm327 reader from eBay, so far it seems to be able to read all values I have cleared one abs error so I assume you can clear anything.

Don't be fooled by the price these readers are probably cheap to make and the higher priced ones are just ripping you off.

Cheap readers only read generic OBDII fault codes and cannot access the various modules and their stored fault codes, they will be able to read the airbag generic fault code because the MIL lamp is lit but will not be able to access the airbag control module to erase the fault code.

A garage with a mult-marque reader like a Snap On one will be able to erase the code, otherwise its VCDS, OBD11 etc.

Happy to be proved wrong, since getting VCDS I have never used either of my cheap readers, one of which supplied by ECP has never displayed a single code, I think once it detects its plugged in does nothing other than bringing up a "no fault codes found" message.

Thank for all the replies, found the VCDS-Owners map in one of the threads, but anyway I'll try to fetch something myself too just in case.

Read somewhere, that the 2008+/facelift version is not very VCDS-friendly (I think it was about rear fog light reconfig). I'll need to clear the error not just read it, I go back to research on what obd2 and obd11 can do on this car...

VCDS works perfectly with a MK2 FL. It's certainly more than capable of clearing an airbag light.

Regarding the second fog light tweak, that's because VAG moved the functionality from the long coding into the lighting configuration section of the BCM EEPROM. As VCDS can't access the BCM EEPROM, it can't enable the second fog :)

You could do what I did many times with an airbag light and leave it until the next MOT and ask the tester to clear it. Mine charged a few quid as he was already dealing with the car. I had a problem with the infamous airbag connector under the driver's seat. Skoda claimed they did not know what caused the problem ??????! but assured me the bag would deploy in a crash.
