Considerations for removing the battery?

Featured Replies

I need to remove the battery from my Fabia Mk1 to properly charge it indoors as it currently shows only 9.8 volts.

What considerations should I make for doing this?

I already know that...

1) I will lose the clock on the dashboard.

2) I may lose the settings on my aftermarket Sony headunit.

3 One-touch electric window function will need resetting.

Do you know how old the battery is?

Hi Dave, are you aware that you don't actually have to remove it from the vehicle for charging? - unless the issue is actually getting a power supply to it.

I'd be surprised if you get it back, looks like a dead cell from that voltage reading.

According to my records... 28 Dec 2016

And yes, I know it can be done in the car, however that is not currently practical due to its location.

Just replace it, it's toast unless it has a five year guarantee.

Yeah I probably will. I think the recent freezing weather and very little use during the past 11 months has probably given it a good punishing.

Any starting of the car recently has had to be done with the help of a jump pack.

I'm just a bit hesitant to pay out for a new one right now if it is still going to be a few more months of working from home until everything is back to normal.

Also, can you even get a car battery delivered? Would have thought they'd be considered hazardous or prohibited items.

Yes. Tayna.co.uk are very swift at delivery usually.

May as well try charging though, nothing to lose. Be persistent though; may take a few goes.

I got mine delivered from Euro Car Parts.

Yes you can, batteries are sealed  for life these days and cannot leak, they're just heavy!

The box they are delivered in, is also very useful when it comes to getting your old battery to your local household recycling centre.

I've ordered a new battery. Should be arriving Friday.

I weigh my old batteries in at a local scrap recycling company and get some money instead of just taking them to the tip.
