Also a question - how big of a midrange do you think can fit in the factory location (the grille next to the door handle) - as diameter and depth, roughly? Many thanks!

PS: I finally understood what it was like during communism - father paid for a Lada Samara and waited years :D (however he never got it :D).

87mm should easily fit, you can cut off the standing edge. But the grill pattern will block a lot...

Its behind the breaking peddle, but its best to remove battery, to have easy access from engine comparment.

Ok, is there already a hole or did you need to drill a new one? I guess you ran the cable then under the door sill panel?

There is already a hole to use, exactly, under door sill panel running to back.

Sound system upgrade by changing the sub and amplifier. Lowbidget devices but with a lot of improvement comparing to oem canton mini sub. I wanted more bass

Hello, which battery are you using?

Put midrange on pillars and tweeters on the triangle of the rearviews mirrors. Mine will be like this 😃

I have problem with upload pictures.

I just had a test drive in 5 series g30, their lowest level sound system is better than our Canton 😮

I should have not checked Canton checkbox and spend that money on custom setup.

Are there any kits on market that can be used to upgrade stock sub?

Does having Canton make it harder or better for swap for something aftermarket?

I'd say it depends. If you only want to change the sub for example then you can use the high level outputs of the sub that already exist in your trunk and you only need to bring power from the battery. Not to mention you retain control of all the levels on the infotainment. But if you're doing a full swap it doesn't make much difference since you will be tearing everything apart anyway and it costs extra to get Canton.

What did you expect from a OEM headunit running through a questionable DSP feeding a class D which is not based on the good sounding class D chips (such as TPA3255 and etc)? The small enclosure of the amp says a lot about it - a good sounding class D needs at least an excellent power supply and power supplies need space. And then, this whole setup is driving priced per kg drivers engineered and built by Sonavox, a China company whose website even has spelling errors.

Coming from HiFi with over 15y - Canton was never known to be a HiFi manufacturer, their older designs were what we called mass-retail and while some, like Q Acoustics for example, managed to use similarly priced (as factor of production) loudspeaker drivers and manufacturing processes, they achieved far greater results even stepping into true HiFi.

But saying all this - here as an extra its cheap so nothing to complain about. Elsewhere I see its priced far more aggressively so questionable on what you get for your sweat.

There is a battery on a car, you don't need a big power supply, just a filter to filter out the alternator introduced distortion (which is trivial, even for high power).

But yes, Canton in the Octavia has absolutely nothing to do with Canton. It's using standard components made by Sonavox and the main issue with the whole system also has nothing to do with the amp in the first place. The enclosures are simply very budget. The sub is a plastic can, door speakers are just sitting there without proper sound insulation.

If you just insulate the car properly and put the sub in a proper box the system would sound way better without changing any component.

The reason standard system in 5 series sounds better is because the car is properly insulated, BMW also puts their low frequency drivers close to the front seats instead of in the trunk.

its just shame that canton option is priced similarly as harman kardon, at least in my location.

There's another option besides Canton? Anyway they are the same crap whether its canton, beats or h/k. Just different for each brand.

Indeed it was Harman engineers that helped Canton do this one. Keep in mind Harman is not the one we used to know - it was acquired by Samsung few years back and I suspect not all engineers have been happy with this.

This is simply put - very incorrect. A lead acid/gel battery has no means of smoothing alternator induced AC forms. A very high quality SMPS is required for this and I don`t see where they fitted it, even if components rated at 16VDC.

Does anyone know how much work is it to put damping on the doors?

Could the sub and tweeters be swapped out for slightly better one?

I'm sure you can ask around your local places, there are always people who do audio.

Sure, just wondering here before asking anyone. Or even getting my car :)

Yeah, but it's a UK forum you're in Finland, I'm in Lithuania, the prices will probably vary quite a bit 🤣 The material for sound proofing isn't that expensive so if you DIY it's cheaper.  https://www.hifitalo.fi/collections/silent-coat

I wasn't actually talking bout pricint. Just the idea how much it would take (or how much to disassemble). And perhaps if someone knows tweeters/sub which i could order and swap out myself. :)

But yeah. Best bet to still go to any local shop and ask for pricing.

It takes a while, taking off the door cards, then the speakers in VAG cars are riveted in so you need to drill them out and figure out how you're going to reattach them afterwards. Then putting all the stuff into the door. It's a day of work if you're doing it for the first time. I'm sure those who are used to it are much faster, but they will take you a day's work of money for it anyway. 😀
