SOS Error Message

Featured Replies

Hi,

the work order just says "replaced SOS module and recoded all keys to vehicle"

I had to re-add myself as primary user, not sure if here is anything that will need re-doing

Thanks Jack.

So the SOS module was replaced. Interesting that keys needed recoding - probably tied in with the replacement SOS module.

Despite having Skoda Service U.K. discuss my problems over Bluetooth auto-connect with the local dealer/ service partner, this fault still

persists. Does anyone else out there have Bluetooth auto connect issues or is it only me !

That's interesting. So, the sound I described in my post were clicks that came through the speakers. It sounded like interference to me, but I did comment to SWMBO that it sounded like a loose connection. Maybe there is an element of physical components failing rather than it just being a software issue?

Sad to report that despite the promised software fix for the sos errors and subsequent gps failures that the issue still persists since the software was upgraded.

Oh dear... after 8 months it is past a joke and skoda uk not exactly being helpful in any meaningful way. Other issues also still remain with the latest tack suggesting it does not work as expected as it is probably not a feature for the UK - despite the garage reproducing the issue on other vehicles!

Sorry to hear this stewartv

It may help to know that you are not alone. Whilst I am not beset by that particular problem - although I have experienced it on three occasions - my phone still fails to auto connect and now I have a warning coming up saying that Front Assist does not work as the sensor is impaired.  And all of this despite at least 4 warranty recalls for major system software upgrades and a further warranty ‘repair’ on the direction of Skoda Service U.K. regarding the phone auto-connect issue. So one begins to W order if the software systems and hardware developed by this automotive group is fit for purpose.

I guess we all have to endure further days without transport as cars are taken in for service. One Service Receptionist commented to me when I sighed at the news of more warranty recalls “I guess our iPhones all need regular software upgrades and we just accept that” - “Yes, I replied but it does not mean that we are without our phones for a whole day each time while the systems upgrade”.

Like you I’m not sure where to go next but ‘Skoda Service U.K.’ is currently asking for screenshots of the auto-connect issue so they can “inform the garage”………yet again!

Just picked up a 6m old Superb L&K and had the first SOS issue just now. Lots of people talking about software but there’s been speculation about battery charge too; are they both still in contention for causes?

For the first time in 9 months I have been able to drive past a 'hot' zone with no sos error. The car had had 2 so called software fixes,  neither of which worked. The last garage visit had a 'fix" applied but apart from knowing that Skoda technical gave a set of instructions to the garage master technician I do not know what was done on the last visit. When I have driven past the bottom of the A12 at Poplar twice more with no errors I will consider the issue finally solved. Now for the known issues on the Nav and destinations from phone contacts to be fixed which the factory have finally acknowledged is a problem.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, my dealer replaced the module and I have not had any issues since 🙂

Hi.

Looks like I have this problem on my new vRS which has done under 500 miles. The symptoms are:

  • Started with a few weird clicks through the speakers.
  • Warning about SOS system came up on the dashboard and advised to take to a workshop.
  • GPS went out of position.
  • In the ceiling console the passenger airbag warning is illuminated.

The  next day everything was fine for a while then a couple of clicks and the SOS warning came up again but the GPS was fine. Today everything is fine bar the passenger airbag warning sign.

Before I book it in to be looked at:

  1. Would disconnecting the battery potentially reset anything?
  2. Is there any risk to doing this?

My understanding is that I'll expect the "Christmas tree lights" immediately after starting the car but that these should clear after a bit of driving.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have a 21 plate Octavia VRS estate, I have the exact same issue, odd clicks from the centre speaker on the dash (almost like the speaker has popped) then the SOS issue followed by the navigation being unavailable on the virtual cockpit display. I have also had intermittent issues with parking sensors. It's booked in to be looked at, earliest slot was 1st October (Chelmsford) or 1st November (Southend).

My Octavia had a power steering software upgrade - because apparently the PS is either electric or electrically assisted. The upgrade was done in order to stop the PS drawing too much power. I believe this was happening when idling in traffic.

IMHO the SOS problem, which I experienced 3 times last winter, is due to low voltage. But that opinion is based solely upon error messages coming up on previously owned  VW cars, in winter, due to low voltage.

So it may be worth asking if your car needs/has had this particular software upgrade. I have had no SOS issues since, but then it is summer. Also last winters lockdowns meant that my own and many other cars remained uncharged for weeks or months during cold weather.

Let us know how you get on because SOS false-reporting is still a common problem.

From my experience the SOS is a location based issue (which Skoda confirmed).

Around the UK it seems that there are specific local areas where for whatever reason the SOS module fails. I cannot get the specifics, but it sounds very much like an issue I had in an old Subaru where in a local builders yard the engine immobilise would disable the engine and the car had to be moved a few hundred yards away. That was put down to some sort of local high power radio transmissions and was swiftly rectified - not this protracted nonsense with Skoda that has taken numerous 'false fix' visits over the past 8 months with 2 hour round trips each time.

I have been assured that the most recent fix would 'really work' and so far I have only been able to make one trip past the area where the alarm was triggered with no issues. When I have made several more journeys in the area of failure then I will consider the issue 'probably' fixed.

In my case it was at the bottom of the A12 at Poplar in London.  I have also heard reports about somewhere in Docklands as well.

I was surprised to find a YouTube video advising me to correct Parking Monitoring and Front Assist issue by .....cleaning the small area of outside windscreen that lies behind the SOS unit. Looking in you see a camera. I cleaned the windscreen in that area - not knowing that front-assist relied on this camera. It worked and cleared all parking assist and general front assist problems. Hope this helps

I have the same SOS error message on my L & K Superb IV estate reg Dec 20. It has started happening more often now and eventually stops the whole infotainment screen responding at all. It's going in to the dealer for its first oil change next week and I've asked them to check this fault. Is there anything special I should try to tell them about the fault that might make them fix it?

Hi Traps

Sorry to hear this. Are you located in the London area by any chance? Several contributors are convinced that there are low-signal black spots in certain area including London. However others including me feel that a low-battery charge level invokes the issue. Skoda recalled my Octavia for a power steering software upgrade about 3 months ago. The existing software led to the steering draining the battery when idling, say at junctions. I’ve not had an SOS fault since the cold snaps last winter when we were in lockdown and I was scarcely using the car. Dealer ‘should’ do any software upgrades along with your service but I’d ask if your car has the latest upgrade anyway.

Hi,

As above they replaced the module on mine. I also had odd issues with the infotainment and after pressing them they checked with SUK and did a firmware update to 0278 the old version was 0156 gave me some new functions but need a new manual I suspect to find out what has changed to see the new bits

John

JJC please remind us how we can check on the software version we have. 👍

Thanks for those replies Polo & jjc. I let you know how I get on next week. When it does happen it's usually after at least 1/2 hour driving. I take a picture on the screen for them too. I don't think it's a low signal but maybe.

Are we all sure it is not location based? I have heard that this has happened at quite a few places outside London - and quite specific on location and not a wide ranging area. Skoda also referred to it as a 'location SOS issue'. I still do not know what exactly was done after 3 garage visits, but I need to make a couple more 'drive by' journeys close to the suspect area before I am 100% convinced.

Oh Sugar! I had an SOS error this afternoon, I didn't have time to read it properly.

I got home and parked up then had to reverse slightly, turning the ignition back

on cleared the ( !  sos) reminder. Now what? I think I will put it on charge.

That could well be the solution. I had a couple of false activations last year after not using due to restrictions in cold weather. I then recharged and used the car more frequently. No false activations since 🤞

If you are brave enough, try making a couple of repeat journeys along the exact same route to see if that discounts the location based symptoms many of us have experienced.

Thank you PoloPaul and Stewarttv, I usually put the car (ever since I have had Stop Start) on charge every 3-4 weeks,

especially if I am only doing short journeys.

I had my car in for its first service/oil change 5 weeks ago and asked the dealer to fix this sos error message. They seemed to know about it and did some software update. I have had no repeat of this error message at all. I've been over some of the same areas and had 2 trips of over 300 miles in the day. No problems whatsoever! I can go back to liking the car.

Hello

I have today received this message from SkodaService U.K.

The software update to address a number of issue that ‘many’ but not all of us are experiencing…. appears to be ready, as scheduled, before the end of March. Message reads…….

The factory are due to release a software update this week, we believe this update will cover a number of items.

Once this has been released I will be in a better position to advise what it will include”
