Hello

I have today received this message from SkodaService U.K.

The software update to address a number of issue that ‘many’ but not all of us are experiencing…. appears to be ready, as scheduled, before the end of March. Message reads…….

The factory are due to release a software update this week, we believe this update will cover a number of items.

Once this has been released I will be in a better position to advise what it will include”

Thanks Paul.

Very interesting. I will call mr garage next week.

Hi PoloP,

Interesting that you got a message from Skoda. In November my Superb was in for the oil change service at Skoda in Dartford, told them about the fault with software, and they seemed to know about. They did an update then and since then, (tempting providence), I've had absolutely no problem. Maybe it's different software.

Let us know what it does for you.

Glad to hear you are now sorted. I’ve had more updates with this car than the BBC give about Boris and Partygate.!

So I no longer have the SOS malfunction . I do however retain:

1. Units in navigation stuck on Km/h

2. Unable to save an S-PIN

3. iPhone Bluetooth connection unreliable

….,among others

Apart from that Laura is clueless and 1st time entering of any destination in Navigation pretty much depends on manually entering a postcode. Have  now foresaken Laura and her Voice Navigation in favour of Siri on iPhone.

And yet….Yet some of us experience none of these issues. It begs the question as to why so many others of us - do…..

The sos issue does indeed seem to be fixed. My outstanding issue with the Amundsen V3 headunit are;

1. Post code entry simply shows an off road destination with no correlation to street or otherwise - just a set of lat/long coordinates which are totally meaningless unless you are an ordinance survey rambler.

2. The system refuses to accept an address from a connected phone and its contacts claiming it is invalid, yet my Edition with Columbus accepts the same phone and contact.

All these functions worked perfectly on older systems.

Update on above. New message from SkodaService today reads:

Thank you for your patience whilst we investigate your concerns. At present the complaint is still under review with the factory.

I will be in contact within the next 2 weeks to provide an update.”

Seems like zero progress despite the previous claim that the SW fix promised for March was complete. 🤷‍♂️

I have just also had a message from my garage and my car is booked in for next week to have the software updated to version SW304.

No idea what it fixes, but the garage felt it prudent to do the update.

Although my SOS issue was fixed, I am wishfully hoping that this new release will make the satnav behave like the previous one with real world destinations and the capability to recognise UK addresses from a phone contact directory.

Fingers crossed... and I will post here with the results.

Just had the SOS error after 16000 miles and about 16 months of pretty faultless ownership 😟

Going to ring Skoda/ dealer tomorrow but loathed to do a 40 mile trip to get it diagnosed before they order any parts. Any advice appreciated on that one.

Android auto seems to be playing up now. Not sure if there's a link there?

If it is definitely a persistent fault then annoying as that is, especially  with fuel being really expensive just now, then you have little other choice.

The sole self-help action that I have taken after a few false SOS activations - that has helped is….decide if your battery may have become weakened by the recent cold weather. If so - and this has worked for me - then give the battery a full charge on a Smart-Charger overnight. On the occasions when I have had SOS faults, this has worked. Milder weather is here now though so maybe this will sort it out. I do feel that with these complicated systems even marginally impaired voltage can cause sensors of all kinds to falsely activate.

However as we all know other contributors to this forum have experience false SOS activation based upon location and even in mild weather.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks. It's coming up saying SOS error on the dash. Drove quite a distance today non stop so the battery should be Ok? Will give them a ring in the morning and see what they say.

My Karoq consistently had the SOS error at very specific locations. A "final' fix was applied and I have made numerous journeys past the same locations with no issues since. It was thought to be something to do with 5g? ( or is that part of the conspiracy theory?!).

Maybe at some point Skoda & VW Group will apologise to customers who spent their money buying vehicles that came with Software not fit for purpose and had to spend their time and money back and fore getting fixes if they ever did without giving up on living.

He is off with a smile on his face and loads of money in his financial package..

Interesting one Roottoot. I wonder if their software will actually improve? I'd read somewhere that Musk had offered him a job at Tesla a while ago. Maybe it was sabotage!

Since the fix, my software is working as it ought to (hurray)but has two additional ‘safety’  features.

I now regularly head two loud ‘Pops’ from the infotainment and this is great for keeping me awake at the wheel. As well as that I have regular warnings that ‘SOS’ is not available (until I restart then its ok again) and this really concentrates the mind on ‘defensive driving’.

Does anyone else have these add-ons 🤣

I dont have your additional safety features! Sounds like it is actually still not fixed.

Our software still does not work as it ought to... and the garage have confirmed that even the latest shipping software still has my issues.

1. When your phone is connected, select a destination from the phone contacts list - you get an error of 'Invalid format'.

2. Most UK post code destinations give an 'Off Road' destination and show the address simply as Lat/Long. This is as much use as a chocolate teapot when revisiting somewhere from the satnav previous destinations list.

If I ever buy another Skoda I will have a huge check list of what I purchased to test before acceptance and I can then reject the vehicle. The shame is that the test drive we took has the Amundsen V2 head unit which worked as expected - sadly,, the delivered car had the V3 unit which has been a total disaster. Even my 4 year old Kodiaq with the old Columbus head unit works with all the features that Skoda seem to have broken in their latest units

To be fait=r to the dealer, they have tried out the issues I have reported as new cars come in but Skoda UK seem completely complacent and probably hope I will just give up which will not be the case.

Scala owner here in Portugal. Had the SOS issue locking my bolero MIB3 for the third time today with 25k km and 16 months of ownership. First time was about 4 months ago on a subterranean parking, so I believe it was location based, but now it's happening more often. Going to book with skoda for friday before I go on vacation and they will have a look. Just reporting here so we know how many this is affecting.

In the North of England. Driving yesterday. Pop-pop then ‘Emergency Call Unavailable. Contact Workshop’. So as usual I tried to clear the message by switching ignition on and off but this time to no effect. Eventually first Google Maps, then Apple Maps  and finally Skoda Navigation started randomly re-routing and finding new routes every few seconds. I re-booted the Infotainment and the Infotainment went blank then started ‘searching’ for ages. Eventually on more re-boots it said ‘ You need to re-enter your SPIN’, but since the infotainment was non-functioning, I couldn’t. The tiny ‘World Map’ symbol showing data-connection was missing

So wondered id the e-SIM had given up the ghost and started regretting buying this car……….yet-again.

Left the car on the driveway till early evening and everything was back to normal.  So the only unusual factor yesterday was that I was driving in 30 degrees of heat and it was clearly cooler in the evening.

Has anyone else had anything similar happen in the heat. This is the UK and 30 degrees is (was) highly unusual. Has this ever happened to anyone living in a hotter European Country?

This is definitely a fault which probably lies with the SOS and e-sim module. The errors do tend to be location specific.

My modules were finally replaced and no errors since, and that included many journeys where the fault consistently set off the SOS error.

Skoda probably have a serious shortage of electronic components so will probably kick this down the road some more.

Get in touch with skoda technical via their website and formally lodge a complaint about this issue as well as the dealer who is giving you the run around. It took me a lot of perseverance including along the garage for all my money back as the car was not only not for for purpose but failed to meet the EU regs for having a working SOS module.
