2014 Skoda Octavia MK3 2.0L TDI 7 Speed DSG

Featured Replies

Hello!

New to the forum, and hopefully new to owning a Skoda but I have a question or two that I'd love some help/advice with.

I'm eyeing up a 64 plate Octavia with 2l TDI auto and the seller (used car sales type)  informs me it's a 7 speed dry clutch and therefore doesn't need an oil change, I just wanted to confirm with you fine people if this is likely/true etc.

Also it has 90k+ miles on it and wondered thoughts on that.

Price is in excess of £6500.

Regards

Keiran

Welcome.

The Seller knows nothing about the car, so buyer beware.

If you look at the car you will see a 64 Plate 2l TDI has 6 forward and 1 reverse with the Wet Clutch DSG, and it is not a 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch DQ200 DSG.

They are not fitted to 2 litre TSI or TDI's.

The DSG with those require a 40,000 mile oil change.

That means the DSG should have had 2 oil changes by now and you want to see the evidence in the form of an invoice & receipt.

Some in the Octavia Section should be able to help.

Hello Kieran :hi:

Must admit I though all the 2.0 TDI's from that year had the 6 speed DQ250 wet clutch DSG.

Perhaps ask them to clarify exactly which DSG it has.

The Sales Person really needs a kick up the backside.

I would be asking them if they have ever driven the car.

The funny thing is that a member here with a 7 speed DSG Octavia had no idea their car had 7 gears and not just 6.

That's really helpful thank you, is it possible to see where the dsg oil is drained from beneath the car? If so I'll see if I can get them to take a photo to confirm.

I get the feeling if I question the assertion (quoting them exactly):

"It’s dry clutch DSG 7 speed . It does not need oil change service. Wet clutch are old ones that needed oil change."

they might get funny about it.

If they 'get funny about it' then can you really trust them, and would you want to spend your hard earned cash with a seller that gets upset when you ask a reasonable question about how the car has been maintained?

My 2018 Golf GTI has the 6 speed wet clutch DQ250, so not exactly 'old'.

If if does have the DQ200 7 speed dry, then it's got completely the wrong DSG in it.  Are you sure it's not a 1.6TDI?

You need to know exactly which DSG it has, but irrespective of that I'd be walking away by now.

@KeiranI promise you that there is no DQ200 DSG on that car.

They are fitted to Skoda cars with 180 ps or less and 250Nm max.

that is just with the 1.4 & 1.6 TDI cars,  or 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.5 or 1.8 TSI's.

2014 is too early for a Skoda 2.0 TSI or a TDI to have a 7 speed wet DSG.

Can we have a link to the advert?

@Keiran

Brand new 2.0 TDI's have 7 Speed Wet Clutch DSG's.

VW Group still do DQ200 7 Speed Twin Dry Clutch DSG's but are soon discontinuing them unless combined with Mild Hybrid with 1.0 & 1.5 TSI engines.

They shared the service history when I asked. I've had a look through and I see no specific mention of a DSG oil change which is why I asked them

Fairly clear it's not a 1.6 then.  Unremarkable MOT history.

Would love to see it change into 7th! :notme:

Those 2014 2.0 TDI 150 ps are 320 Nm so can not have a DQ200 DSG.

The 2015 VW Polo GTI 1.8 TSI with 192ps got as DQ200 DSG and 250 Nm. but the Manual box cars had 320 Nm.

They did the same performance.

@38,000 miles someone should have been looking at getting the DSG Oil Changed.

(Audi have 38,000 miles as the Scheduled Change for s-tronics.)

Lookers West London should have done it in 2017 @ 44,285 miles if it had not been done.

I just spoke to my local Skoda specialists and they've said it's a 7 speed dry clutch :/ I'll call elsewhere too

@Keiran  Can the salesperson not just take it for a drive and see if it does into D7 ?

It must need a wee Italian Tune Up anyway to clean the discs.

(actually the rears look ok in the pictures.)

I can't find any reference to a 7 speed DSG for this car:

Taken from here:

And from Parkers:

Even Wiki confirms it'll only be a DQ250.

Something's not right.  As George has pointed out it couldn't (shouldn't) have the DQ200 because of torque restrictions.  And even, in the extremely unlikely event it were to be a one-off with a very early DQ380 (production started in 2015) 7 speed, that's still a wet clutch.  Unless something's happened to it, and it doesn't have the box it came with.

Quite fascinating :mmm:

DQ250 - gotta be if its a 2013 car.  I think the DQ381's came in around 2016/2017 (around the time of the face-lifted cars) - which were 7 speed.

Just spoke directly to Skoda and it's confirmed as a wet clutch. Thank you all for the help, amazingly fast replies. Going to be sticking around this place :D

Now to figure out what to do about the car linked above. Probably walk away if I'm sensible. Or ask for further clarification

This ... there will be another one for sale sometime soon that meets your requirements B)

+1 vote for this. It's not a rare spec, colour or model. You probably won't need to be too patient until another suitable car comes up.

And you never know, the next one that comes along might be being sold by someone who knows how many gears it's got and whether it's a wet or dry clutch DSG.  Pretty fundamental really.
