Oil service

Featured Replies

I've got a msg come up saying I need an oil service. Is it literally just an oil change required and if so is it worth doing it at the main dealership or will an independent be just as good (and invariably cheaper)

So - there are essentially two types of servicing; basic and enhanced from Skoda.  If the car needs a service, it will try and give you anywhere between 2000-2500 notice depending on your mileage.  It sounds like your car needs just a basic service or oil and inspection service - https://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/oil-and-inspection-service

What mileage has your car done?

Mine is going into the dealership next week for an oil service. I was quoted about £130. I can't imagine an independent will charge much less given it takes nearly 6 litres of oil, plus labour, overheads and vat etc.

Car is coming up to around 22k from memory. Msg came up with 1000mile warning. Currently now 700mile warning so need to get booked in. It had a major service at 15k at the dealer.

If it is out of warranty I would use an independant. Mine was 2 years old 13k miles and dealer was trying hard to "up sell" A/C cleanse, injector cleanse, pollen filter and screen wash additive. OK pollen filter is a 2 year recommended but at 13K really?

Pollen filter a recommendation because they have no idea where the car is used or when.

Seaside, Countryside or City Centre with polluting busses with black soot coming into the cabin filter.

You can remove it, vacuum it, blow it through and wash the area and put it back. or spend £15 or so and bung in a new one.
