Service Details

Featured Replies

Brand new member to the Board only this a.m. ...... only took delivery of used 2018 Karoq on Friday ( very pleased ) and I'm sure this point must have  been raised before .... where do I get previous Service details from ? ?

Dealer that sold car to me ( non Skoda dealer) has given me their 36K service details and calmly said " ... details of earlier service on line ... ". Now in the dark and guess I only need 1 from 18K (?) and possibly original delivery PDI.

Can anyone help .... so far the internet hasn't given me any assistance.

Yes, service records are kept on line - they used to be available via My Skoda App, but not any more.

However, your dealer can print out the entire service record very easily for you.

Thanks JohnD for the prompt reply ....... slight problem ... vehicle wasn't bought from a Skoda dealer and the Service manual / Roadside Assistance book have no details of any description as to dealer who supplied..... possibly a lease vehicle before.

What would be the chance of a local Skoda dealer printing this service info down ??? ... pretty slim I guess ... unless I promise future Service ??? ... which I doubt I will do. I had Volvo's for some 30 years and they were all serviced by my local Indy, who I shall continue to use. Also, I thought there was now, no requirement for Main dealers to always be used, as this indicated restrictive practices on behalf of the manufacturer.

Any tips might help.

Regards XVolvo.

As per above,  ask your local Skoda dealer. Can't think of any reason why they wouldn't tell you, they're only reading the info off a screen. They should have the record unless of course the previous owner, just like you, used an indi. Or perhaps they never serviced the car? :D

So you bought a car not knowing what it's service history was? Were there no receipts in the handbook / glovebox?  Most people on here would have advised you checked out the service history before buying it.

Appreciate your comments Scot 5 ....... the dealer I bought from gave the vehicle a predelivery service and MOT and referred me to  Skoda online, which is hopeless. There is / was no way of checking earlier service details but I will visit local Skoda dealer.

I agree with you about prior history but with a 12 month Warranty on vehicle I hope I am a pretty good position until I can get Skoda info, and can still return vehicle F O C within 2 weeks

You’re correct  ... no information at all  with vehicle .. the handbook is pristine and without receipts ... it doesn’t have a section for Service Records like all other vehicles I have had ... pretty bad idea from Skoda who say all is now digital and online.

Dealer is well established and reputable.

Thanks for your input. XVolvo.

Don't single out Skoda, many manufacturers now work like that.  All you need is the reg number and dealers will print out the service history for you. You don't have to buy  / own the car.

Say you buy a 2year old car with only 10,000 miles on it with a complete dealer stamped service book. The car's great and you buy it. However if you asked the dealer for the service history, it might say the car was left with 1.6mm tyre tread after the first year and 2.5mm after the second year, in other words, you just bought a car that's been probably been thrashed.

When service history is printed, it'll tell you what service was done and detail the work carried out. What do you get with a service book? a stamp which tells you feck all other than the dealers contact details.

I think the online system is much better but I'm sure others will disagree.

When you visit your local dealer and politely ask about the availability of the service records, I would hope that he'd be grateful for the opportunity to keep you on board when it comes to your next service. You don't have to tell him that you will, most likely, use an indy.

I would not have bought/paid for/driven away the car without knowing its full service history. Doesn't instill confidence in the selling dealer if they seem happy to fob you off with comments that 'its online for you to access' - why haven't they done that for you? Surely that is in their interest to make the vehicle more saleable. The fact they have not done this would ring alarm bells for me - where will you stand if the online service record shows no services have been done?

Plus I would not be over confident with an 'independant garage' doing Skoda recall / software update work as, unless they are a one-marque specialist for Skodas, it is unlikely they will have full access to Skoda's computer systems/database in order to do that. For example, there have been much publicised issues with the 1.5TSI engine resulting in key software updates being needed to cure - not in the remit of a jack-of-all-trades garage. As others have said - speak to a Skoda dealership ASAP, and if they should be reluctant to help you then put a call into Skoda UK customer service.

When you speak to them, get it printed, or them to send an email with it attached so you can print it.  I would also enquire if there are any outstanding recalls or service campaigns.

Apart from anything else, you will have forgotten by time the next service is due and personally I prefer to know what was done last time before booking it in for next service.

The MySkoda app should show when the next service is due, plus full in the blanks for the last one.

How does the my Skoda app offer this, when I added my car (it used VIN number) showed the car type and then only offered 2 things : trip report; my service partner (which seems to be a list of dealers)

Neither of which seem useful as I am unlikely to log lots of local journeys, and I know where nearest dealer is.   Can’t see any service history though.

App Seems useless to me, but perhaps that is all is does with 2012 cars

There have been 4 safety recalls for 2018 Karoqs, (see SKODA KAROQ 2018 - Check vehicle recalls - GOV.UK (check-vehicle-recalls.service.gov.uk) ) so it would be worthwhile checking if any of these apply to you. If you enter your VIN in the Skoda website Recall actions (skoda-auto.com) you should get more info.

If you use an independent service agent, are they registered with VAG or ERWIN? I think that allows them to use the ERWIN computer system to get detailed info about your car and its servicing needs.

My Android version isn't as comprehensive as DSL's but under the Vehicle Status tab it tells me my oil change is due in 234 days or 8,999 miles and a Service Inspection due in 599 days or 19,599 miles. (As a new car  it doesn't have a service record of course.)

Hi DSL

Can you say if this is an Android or Iphone app, and let me know the version number of the app, please?

Thanks

It’s the apple version on my SE2.  Last update of MySkoda, 4/3/21, was to V4.0.0.

And mine is the Android, v4.0.3, last update 26/3/2021.

Chris

Thanks DSL and Chris. My version is Jan 2021 so I need to update. I can never understand why Android and Apple apps differ in functionality (and not just for MySkoda).

Thanks for all the interest in my original query and for some positive input .... I'm glad to say that after some pressure on the vendor I have obtained the missing Service detail, which has confirmed the validity of mileages / dates etc and removed quite a few worries.

Thanks again everyone for your help.... I've put another query on the Board which I hope will attract some help.

regards .. XVolvo

XVolvo, exactly when was it registered?  Is it still within the original 3 year warranty? In that case there's still an a Skoda dealer relationship (any of them). They can give you a Skoda service printout.

You say it's a 1.6 SE Tech.  So it's a diesel?  (Just to clarify)

  • Author

Just to confirm... yes, car is diesel ...... checked with Skoda, they have no trace of vehicle since it was sold in 2018 with no service being carried by their main dealer chain. This is not unusual to have non use of main dealers nowadays as people use indies, due to either distance from location or servicing costs.... also as a lease / company vehicle it could be serviced  “ in house” ,as mine has been. I have, now, no worries on this score as services carried out on time..... vehicle is out of Skoda warranty.

A couple of other points .... vehicle is 1.6 not the 1.5 ( I did some investigation ! ) and on the recall issue, If necessary, I would only use a Main dealer for the reasons correctly stated ( this happened a few times for me with Volvo’s I had .... work always FOC ! )

Thanks everyone for your input to date.

XVolvo.

Fair point XVolvo.  There's an excellent independent BMW specialist near me, gets a lot of business from cars that've never seen a franchised dealer since they first rolled out of the showroom.   Trust the people you know.

Yes, I looked up the specs on Parker's, that's why I thought it might be a diesel.  They're either 1.6 or 2.0.

Anyway, welcome to the club!  I can't match your Swedish record, I only had 12 years of Saab before moving, and this Karoq is my third Skoda.
