Superb TSI Service - Sump access

Featured Replies

I have a Superb Estate 220 petrol registered in April 2018 - so to avoid an extortionate servicing cost by my local skoda dealer I thought i'd do the smart thing and book in at an independent garage which offered me the service and brake fluid change at a better price.

When they've come to service it they said they were unable to access the sump because the access key is Skoda specific and they didn't have one available at the time. No charge, so no harm done just a waste of a morning.

Has anyone else had this issue? I am not mechanically minded in any way so my understanding of it is perhaps not the best! I've had a quick google and there are plastic sump plugs that could act as a replacement if they can get the current one out.

Your thoughts and advice would be appreciated!

Obviously your choice of garage is not up on VAG cars then, as they would have the proper tool. Make you think would they have used VW approved oil.

I would find a local VAG specialist for future work.

They probably didnt have the correct tools because VW Group cars are so rare here in the UK.  :D

A VW speciaist may be better but on a car thats only 3yr old, you may find their prices not far off a main dealer.  Go to the good garage scheme website and get a couple of quotes from garages with a good reputation. Then go to your VW dealer or VW garage and as if they'll price match if not then it's back to those garages.

What is this Skoda specific key?

Looks a bit like this:

Drain Plug Removal Tool for MK7 GTI and Golf R

Although there are plenty of people using a suitably large flat head screwdriver instead ;)

Some of them have a fancy wee fitting to remove the sump plug from the plastic sumps. You can buy them in most places though as they are kind of popular. Langers2k beat me to it. 😂

As the oil filter is on top, I would buy an oil extractor and leave the sump plug alone.

Sorry read it wrong, thought you were going to DIY
