Advisories on front discs (we knew this, see pic) and front tyres are getting low, that's it. 

Should be done at the start of December.

It's been broken over 2 weeks now..

The new (genuine VAG) master cylinder arrived this morning.

 

Now I have to either find a VAG friendly mobile mechanic to come fit it or work out how to get the car to my trusted spannerman - which is logistically problematic.

I had something similar with my Mk2 a few years back.  In the end I had to bite the bullet and have it towed to the garage.  It cost me a few pounds but at least the car was back on the road.

I feel your pain though, my red one was off the road for six weeks recently whilst the clutch was sorted out.
