So, got the insurance sorted for the Fabia, so it's back on the road as of Tuesday.   In the meantime, it found itself a friend. Well chuffed with this Vectra, not sure if I'll make a projec

Deflectors through eBay as they were before!

Parts cost nothing when you still get discount from a certain big car sales chain!

Getting my mate to do the work because he's got a garage, ramps, and heating! Posh basket! :D

Console bushes are PSB ones I'm pretty sure, DM. I bought them at the same time as the car. :)

Trade rates are great.

Used to get parts at near cost when I worked at a skoda dealer.

Still get trade rates at motor factors at least.

PSB is solid. I had them on the sdi and monte.

Come to think of it the Rebuilt sdi subframe did basically no miles, and I swapped it out for a MK2 style now so that was a bit of a waste.

She's still going, hai! Edging ever so close to 97k, and hoping to have it well over 100k by summer. Quality.

Got her back from paint a couple of weeks ago, looking miles better now.

A good wash is in order ASAP.

Looks pretty clean compared to my Rapid 😆

Clean MOT sheet for this one. Not bad considering it's been abused. Staring down the barrel of 100,000 miles now, and in the best shape I think it has been in for a long time.

4 years down, both as a member and an owner of this wee car.

Still looking good. 👍

Considering they were first released 26 years ago now, the old Fabia have aged really well.

Agreed! They've aged really well.

Well here we are... I'm finally starting to get things for this that I've been wanting for ages. First up was replacing the godawful soft touch plastic handbrake. It's not in the worst nick, but I didn't like the way it felt compared a proper leather one.

PICT0175.JPG

Well that's better. I have a few more things coming up next. In the meantime, I gave it a damned good polish for the first time in nearly four years.

Much shiny.

Just looks absolutely spot on (if you ignore the rust on that door).

Once again doing things...

Blue mirror glass! Been wanting to do this for ages, so finally bit the bullet since mine were delaminating and generally being a nuisance as a result.

PICT0178.JPG

PICT0180.JPG

It's quite the change, I've yet to try them at night though. Need to extend the wires that go to the heating element too, but that's low on the priority list just now.

Today (14/04) was a trip to Inverkeithing with my mate to pick up some odds and ends for our Fabias. Somehow I left with a Flamenco Red bumper that was in a much better condition than mine. The car will never be a proper "show" car, but I like it looking well.

Is this what the vRS boys mean by a "wide mouth" for the intercooler? giggle

All the better with the new bumper on, though. Reg plates coming as well, fresh set to fit.

I think that's the purpose anyway, I'll have to try it at night! I got the glass from a seller on eBay, it's new and apparently OE quality. I'll report back...

Following as I have a delaminating drivers door mirror glass around the edges a little.

S'pose I should update this...

Wee bit has happened since my last post here. I've been to Skodafest, where I got my annual catch up with @gav_is_con and got to finally meet @Lofty and see his gorgeous Fabia vRS in the flesh for the first time.

Matt's car undoubtedly (and deservedly) being the star of the show here, an absolute power of work has been done on this one.

Moving back to the point of this whole project thread is my 1.2. Finally got the wee thing over 100,000 miles, in fact it's closer to 101,000 now.

IMG_0280.JPG

A good day was had, and the drive was actually quite enjoyable. It has reminded me however that I really need to soundproof that car, as the sound of the engine roaring at 3500rpm along a motorway really gets to me after a while!

Thankfully, to combat this, I was reminded today that I'd ordered some of the under-bonnet sound deadening, with a part number kindly supplied by @Breezy_Pete. Much to my surprise, the parts for this were readily available and not overly expensive all things considered. I shall be fitting this tomorrow.

IMG_0355.JPG

Besides this, next jobs will be tying up all the loose ends on this car as a project, all the half-started stuff. Two years on I still haven't finished the rear electric windows retrofit, that's priority, before I unveil to you all the other things I've hoarded to fit to this wee thing. ;)

And I did just that! It's not a massive difference all things considered, but it's a step in the right direction nevertheless.

IMG_0356.JPG

I've once again been conversing with Pete about soundproofing and we discussed the idea of fitting a diesel undertray which is larger, and comes with a spongy type of soundproofing. The replacement ones online do not, so I'm going to do some research and development (read as trial and error) to see which fabrics would suit it best. That's a post-payday job as I've already ordered enough for this car off this month's payslip!

Ive put some sound deadening behind the insulation on my monte just last night infact

Had some spare, does seem to quiet it down even more.

Nearly a month. It's in bits, many many bits. Lots going on here, I'll do a proper write up in time once it is all done, but here's how it's standing at the moment in the care of my mate.

Diesel under tray in mine didn't have sponge and it was on from new. Plastic air filled cube looking things.

Get some vRS door cards fitted mate 👍

Done one better re: door cards, Lee. Two years ago I stripped a bronze 51 plate Elegance, which gave up a set of Elegance door cards, and looms for electric rear windows. I bought a set of seats to match as well. Driver's set is a bit knackered but it'll do for now! 😁

Ryan this is from an A3 but shows what I mean. I suppose they might have had foam in but I don't think so as when they were squeezed they didn't spring back to shape though that could also suggest the foam, if there was any, had dried out too much.

The under tray that was on my vRS back in the day looked exactly like the picture Lee has posted. There was no foam on it.

There was the foam jacket that could be fitted around the engine block. My Octavia 1.9 PD came with that from the factory, but they would probably have all turned to dust now anyway, mine certainly did.
