Infotainment and sat nav (MIB3) keeps restarting...anyone else?

Featured Replies

Skoda Superb iV 2020...Every five to ten minutes my radio/sat nav/infotainment shuts down and restarts. Takes a minute or so. At first I thought it was updating (I have the e-sim internet pack) but it's a regular thing now - so predictable I was able to video it.  Only started last month (I've changed nothing), but today it's in the garage to get sorted. Service have just rung to say Skoda say 'never seen this before' which is a pretty usual response - so anyone else had it please?

Mine had a wobble today, looked to be rebooting but just hung. Left the car as needed to do something when I got back in and started up again it was OK so will have to see.

Mine has frozen and also become spontaneously locked on mute, which required the car to completely switch off and then restart to clear it. MIB III is really quite sub-standard compared to the previous generation.

Sent video, collected car...Skoda are investigating. Under warranty, and in this day and age sat nav is imho a safety issue (ie if it stops working in the middle of a busy city). So let's see...

I seem to recall somebody having random issues like that before and it was traced to rodents having chewed through some cables. Apparently the cables are covered with something that mice are attracted to and this isn't just limited to VW group cars. Hopefully it is just a faulty infotainment module as re-wiring can get expensive.

Not had quite that problem, but today on pulling away from work I got the “SOS Emergency Call Restricted. Workshop!” Message, which I’ve never had before but see a number of people have experienced. It was accompanied by the central screen turning off and staying off. As it happened I had to stop a couple of minutes later, so tried the old ‘turn it off and back on again’ approach. When I switched it back in the centre screen came back in as normal, but the SOS error remains.

I’ve been out to the car this evening, a number of hours later, and the error’s still there.

I don’t know if anyone has any ideas? Some people seem to suggest disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, don’t know if this is a good idea. Also, last week the car went into the dealer to have a wing mirror cover replaced, I doubt they’d have done anything with the electrics, but it’s a bit coincidental.  Of course I’m 6 months out of warranty...

My 2020 Octavia has mib3 and had just started to constantly reset itself.  It only stays on for a couple of minutes then powers down.  As part of this I am now getting the SOS call is restricted warning and as a bonus the PDC error…. Has been fine for 3 months since being updated at the garage.  Really disappointed.

I had this also for short period of time. The problem stayed for few weeks and it did this every 15 to 20 minutes.

For somehow the problem disappeared it self after few weeks.

Yes indeed. Strange but, maybe, true if the reports on this forum can be believed.

Its generally the adhesive in the loom tape used to wrap the wires. A lot of adhesives are made out of animal parts or so ive been told. Hence why my dogs favorite toy is a box of expensive loom tape!!!

Yeah I know, I’ve read several stories over the years about rodents chewing through wiring etc, it just sounds ridiculous that’s all.

I remember in the 1950s/1960s this factory near Market Harborough in Leicestershire used to make glue from animal bones, so it's not new technology to make adhesives from animal parts.  When the wind was in the wrong direction as you went past, the stench was overpowering.
