Reverse camera install help

Featured Replies

Hi,

I managed to get a reverse camera for my Skoda superb and have come a little unstuck when attempting to fit the handle.

I believe it’s the locking mechanism in the boot lid. Does anybody have any idea how to remove this?

You shouldnt have to, you should be able to see the inside of the handle, theres 2 tabs on each side, pop the closest ones to you out and it should wiggle free, dont have to remove any latches or motors

This is not the locking mechanism, this is the soft close motor, for the powered tailgate, sadly i have no idea how to remove that, but there is no need to do so, all you need to do is pop out the handle from the inside, like ApertureS said!

Thanks all managed to remove it by twisting the black prong and it pulls right off. This then gives you access to the handle.

unfortunately there’s no other way to access the handle other than to remove this part.

Does anybody have any tips for getting the rubber cable tubing back onto the plastic grommets? Really struggling with this

I removed the plastic grommet from the bodywork with a small screwdriver.

It's easy to get the rubber gator back on and push the plastic grommet back in place afterwards 👍

I gave the sleeve and cable a squirt of GT85 and with a bit of fiddly wrangling it pushed through. It is a PITA.

Thanks for the suggestions, I’m struggling to find a screwdriver thin enough that I can leverage behind the pin to release the grommet. Will keep trying 👍

@Ams12 did you route the cable through the roof or the floor?

i routed the cable through the C pillar into the roof, I followed instructions from the thread below. Very helpful guide and credit to the op.

Thanks...I'm.having some trouble getting access to the harness.. did you remove the entire glovebox or just pulled down to reveal the fuses.

On a side note when you removed the soft close motor, is it working as intended?... Maybe I'm being paranoid after having reinstalled it, I feel like it's not working... I thought it would get close to the end and then slowly close but I get more of thud I can see the motor from the inside begin to turn... But it doesn't get very far, probably because it's already closed... (All the trim is still off... Could it be the end position is messed up? I opened and closed it several times one or two times it made a continuous beep which I just ignored...

I removed the whole glove box, there are 3/4 screws inside and 3 screws underneath. I also disconnected the pipe feeding air into the glovebox and the cable attached to the guiding mechanism, however I didn’t disconnect the airbag cable.

The soft close motor works as it did previously, maybe try reattaching the trim and see if that makes a difference. I assume the trim may provide some cushioning/sound deadening. Sorry not sure what to suggest.

Thank you... So may sound silly but I'm just trying to see how I would tackle this.. I tried to remove the stereo but couldn't because the harness isn't long enough... If that's the case how did you manage to remove the glovebox if the stereo remained intact..

I didn't completely remove the glovebox, I took all the screws out from the inside and underneath and then I let the glovebox dangle on the floor well. at this point you should be able to reach around the back of the stereo unit and unplug the main block, then attach your harness and plug it back in. just managed to find a picture, hope this helps.

If you're near Warrington, happy to provide some assistance.

No that is tremendous help. Usually I'll spend a lot of time with self discovery, trial and error but if there is someone out there that has already done it, saves me time.

Appreciate the offer but that's a 500 mile round trip

I’m the same too with being a maverick, just shout if you need any other help :)

Finally managed to get it installed, just need to tuck the wires into the trim... Thanks

Is the image meant to be flipped? As if looking in the mirror..

Do you mean the camera image? It shouldn’t be flipped. For reference see my camera below. If it’s the same camera as

Mine from Ali express, maybe try resetting it.

Mine is.

At least, things on the left side of the car appear on the left side of the camera image if that's what you mean?

Yours is also flipped.

It matches what you'd see in the rear view mirror as the fencing is to the left of the car and the left in the image.

If it wasn't flipped, it would be the same view as turning your head to face backwards. Namely the fence to the left of the car would be on the right on the image :)

Had a moment there... of course it would be flipped...

Me too 😂😂

@JR RS you did an amazing job calibrating, would you mind sharing your calibration figures? I also have a notchback, and don't care about perfect calibration, just want to get rid of the no basic settings error

Sorry buddy but I haven't done a reverse camera install before, so I have no idea about the calibration or parameters involved.

I got it all installed just need to tuck it into the trim (rubber gator still to do) but I was curious is there a way to turn on the camera apart from selecting the reverse gear.. perhaps in close parking control? I can see the rear camera button appear when the car picks up I am close to an obstacle but it is greyed out.

Perhaps there is a way to code it in?

If you have front+rear sensors, hitting the parking sensor button should turn the camera on. At least it does with my OEM highline version :)
