Constant creaking and rattling from Boot

I had a very consistent knock also from the back of the boot, very annoying. However, during my annual car service, I complained to the dealer and they replaced the “dampeners” with new ones (free of charge) stating that they are making replacements on almost every vehicle due to the number of complaints. The new ones are quite elastic, with “spring” offering very quiet driving. Almost like a different car now.

Hello. Can you take a photo to show us the new ones ?

  • Hi all, I had the same problem with my MK4. Last week the car went to 15 000 km service and I mentioned the rattle in the back. The dealer told that there is a recall for that problem and they replace

Hi guys,   Damn dumpers, simply design flaw. I went crazy and even removed everything from my trunk, and rattling noise was still there. Even though that there might be issue with hydraulic

I've got the same thing in my boot but can't work out what it is. It sounds like something is flapping up and down, almost as if the hatch is not closed tightly or the boot liner is not completely fla

Car went in for her first service. Dealer agreed that the amount of rattling from the back /boot area was excessive and agreed to order replacement boot dampeners. Arrived today and I fitted them however they're the exact same part number. Haven't road tested as yet but does anyone know what the most recent part no for these are as I know its a recognised problem
 Thanks

I got a rattle on the drivers door as well and it stops when i press on the leather part even slightly, in my case it isn't the umbrella because SKODA in all its wisdom shipped Octavias to Portugal with a freakin' snow brush instead so i just drive around with the compartment empty.

That was actually a short production year to have the brush. They had the brush in Finland also on MY21 cars. MY22 and later will have the umbrella again.

Thank you for this information. Gave me the confidence to ring Skoda and ask about it. They confirmed my car had not had the recall work done. Subsequently replaced the boot dampers under warranty and the rattle has gone. As someone else said, it's like I have a new car!

Hi

i have the same issue has been driving me crazy I thought it was the rear driver side seat catch. I’ve had all the liners off couldn’t see anything rattling over bumps. I’m going to give the boot trick a go. But the rattling seems to be coming from rear door rear seat area by the seatbelt top

Mine is an estate, built in April 2024 and it has 8k kms on the clock, but it also has some rattling around the left C-pillar in specific conditions - most often on left turn when the front right wheel hits a bump or a small crack on the road.

I went to my local dealer and described the situation, they said they've never heard of a rattling in the estates :)

I tried lowering the back seats, removing the boot cover, etc - no change. I think there's something in the rear door or in the C-pillar - I can't localize it right when I'm driving.

Any ideas about the estates?

Hiya,

Ive been following this thread for a while as I've been having the same 'clunking' boot sound on my Octavia hatchback. Ive tried a few of the suggestions here, which alleviated the issue but not entirely. Its been driving me mad.

This week I 100% fixed it and just want to share how...

As others have said, its the wedge shaped pieces on either side of the boot lid (see pic). As others have also said, there appears to have been a recall at some point.

I decided to take a punt on two of these genuine replacement wedges from this UK supplier. https://www.lllparts.co.uk/product/5ja827249d/wedge-buffer-5ja827249d

They took about a week to arrive. On delivery, it was clear that the old wedges are very stiff and hard to depress compared to the new ones. I suspect they havn't been cushioning the boot lid enough and just banging against it instead - hence the clunking.

I fitted the new ones in about 5 mins and much to my delight the clunking has stopped completely. The rear of the car feels much more solid over speed bumps and uneven road. I can now enjoy driving it again.

If your having the same issue, i recommend grabbing a couple of replacement parts from that link.

Cheers

An year passed and it's getting colder again. I forgot about the clunking on hotter weather, but not it reappeared. The situation is the same, I hear it from the back/left side. I can definitely say that it's connected to the ambient temperature. Last year i disassembled the left rear part that's near the back seat and there was a cable bundle there which i isolated. It's not from there. Then i moved to the plastics in the boot on the left side - also not there... Im starting to wonder about rear left door.

Any ideas from you?

Apologies if this topic has been covered before and please feel freelto remove it Admins.

My 2021 Ovtavia has an awful rattle and creaking noise which seems to be coming from the boot. Its like the catch is loose. Anyone have this issue and is there a fix for it.

Or is it something else completely

Cheers
