Maybe Wrong but I don't think P6000 are "w" rated??

I thnk, but dont quote me without checking, that the ones on at the moment are 'V' rated, the first set of P6000's I had were definately one rating higher so i'm sure they were 'W' and I noticed a huge difference, the 'W' rated ones were much better in terms of grip for some reason.

A word of warning regarding Yoko C drives.

I had Sport Contact 2s from new until 15K then changed all 4 for the Yokos.

Verdict:

Overall lower noise.

Superb dry grip

Acceptable wet grip

HOWEVER:

I am now down to app 4-5 mm after 6K and finding the traction barely acceptable in the dry and wheel spin city in the wet. The car pushes wide a little too easily when it's damp and even gentle acceleration in the wet with lock on causes the traction control to light up.( no I do not cane it everywhere - emergency starts are not my style :nerd: )

Good tyres when new and in the dry but pretty hopeless when part worn and in the wet!

Caveat Emptor!

'Your mileage may vary!'

Happy Uniroyal Rainsport user - great tyres, decent price. Fronts currently on 10k with 5mm left.

I need new rears now (after having new nero's on the front..) and tried to get some more nero's, but can't get any (in 215/40/16 w) and my (new, as I've moved!) tyre place are reccomending a new michelin (just been released) say they are fitting it to the police cars (and Cumbria have an EVO, I've seen it, all marked up too, not a stealth job!) also say it is an extra load bearing tyre with a stiffer sidewall like the nero, so I've ordered two of these :) will write a review, when I've put a few thousand miles on 'em...

Try Michelin Pilot Exalto 2s - excellent sporty tyre. I've got 195/45 16 on my 1.4mpi

It's between 5 brands for my next front tyres then:

Toyo Proxes T1-R,

Pirelli P Zero Nero,

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3,

Kumho KU31,

and Continental Sport-Contact 2.

I'm after the best for grip on both wet and dry and the best lastability for mileage.

Well you had better drop the P Zeros from the list then mate if you want durability 'cos I only got 10k out of my fronts, however if you want good grip all round and can put up with the wear rate then you won't get much better imho.

I got caught out at the weekend there and had to get two new ones and my tyre guy only had P Zeros in stock (in quality tyres anyway) so here we go again. I know they will be good and as they will be doing winter motoring hopefully they will last a little longer this time. I do grudge £150 for two, fitted and balanced though.

need to change my front tyres. whats wrong with michelin tyres? no sure on what to buy .........michelin lasted 26k on the front help

Hmmm, and interesting thread.

I need new tyres shortly, and am not sure what ones to get.

I like the tread pattern on the ones it came with (toyo proxies) so I might go wiht that again.

Are there any other tyres that leave attractive thread patterns I should think about?

Finally running a full set of Michelin Pilot Exaltos on the Vrs (have had them on the rear for about 10k)

Slight hicup in that skoda fitted the fronts the wrong way round - muppets

Initial impressions compared to Continental Sport Contacts 2's are very good.

Dry - Difficult to tell any difference as have only driven on road and not gone past limit - so good then

Wet - Much better performance. Much less wheelspin in 2nd gear - amazed at the difference actually. The SP2's weren't on the limit but traction in damp/wet was very poor.

Noise - No noticable difference

Wear rate - too early to tell (although historically michelins have lasted well for me previously) I expect similar to SP2's so about 20k for the fronts.

Cost - Pretty expensive £90 +fitting +VAT each however performance is very good

whats wrong with michelin tyres? ...
My vRS was delivered with Michelin Pilot Primacy's which I ditched at 13K miles because I was fed up with the high noise levels they produced. Went for Toyo Proxes which are a lot quieter, and grippier in the wet and the dry. Cheaper too.

I've just got a new set on the rears, after fitting p-nero's on the front (215/40/16) I found the conti's (original equipment) on the back were poor in comparison, and the great grip from the p-nero's made my car a bit oversteery... SO... new ones for the back, my local tyre place couldn't get me any p-nero's, but they said goodyear had some new ones out that they were fitting to the police cars, called 'excellence' and they were also 'extra-load bearing' like the nero's so should cope with the heavy front end well without rolling over the sidewalls, (if you were to put 'em on the front, mine were going on the back... a couple of pics...

tread...

my.php?image=tyre2bz0.jpg

asymetric, so heavily treaded on the outside edge for grip, and trnces on the inside for water dispersal.... been very good so far, have cured the oversteer now, matches the front for grip! :)

edit: bloody image shack messed up[ my thumbnails... so here's a link with all the info on the tyre..

Excellence - The new 3-in-1 performance tyre

  • 2 weeks later...

Had some Kumho 31's on the front of the Furbie vRS for about 1k miles and there great, Excellent grip in the dry and the wet......Good choice

Can't beat Mammagamma (made up name), or any of the other tyres that get put on the "budget" wheel/tyre packages!!! LOL

I bought a budget package and wish I'd waited and saved/spent a bit extra on better tyres........Mine are Belters, or summat......(made up again)....noisy as anything. They seem ok in the wet, but TBH after changing from pretty worn tyres, anything would seem ok I guess.

From previous experience on other cars Toyo T1R and T1S were great in the wet and Yokohamas were great in the dry, but didn't last long at all. Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3......I didn't like them at all on my Impreza...Toyos were far better.

Pah! You need Kuhmo KU31's on that list, I am more than impressed with mine.

Yeah I'd agree with you on that one, I'm on my 2nd set now and I'm still impressed :-)

Well I have gone down to a 195/45 x 16 size with Proxes T1-R

Very pleased and surprisingly good in the freezing weather we are having in the North.

I love Uniroyal Rainsports too

Going off the pneus-online.co.uk owner ratings I'd say the Hankook Vertus look just about unbeatable for a Fabia vRS at

It can be beaten

Go down to a 195/45 like me and you can have Proxes T1-R delivered for £45 per tyre so I think that a better tyre at £10 a corner less!

Re the Proxes

Looking at the owner's results the Hankook seems to offer superb results in everything bar traction in snow (and we get so little of that now).

And, won't the 195 45s offer a different rolling radius thereby affecting speedo readout ?

+ how does it affect the chunky / mean look to the car ?

anonymouse

I have just fitted four Hancook Ventus "extra loaded" K104 sport tyres to my Fab Vrs 54 plate so far after being run in I have found them less noisey with road noise compared to the O.E. fitted Michillans, and good grip. I have been following tyre threads on Briskoda to see what other owners had re Toyo,Khumo,Goodyear, etc, etc,at the end of the day im happy with them they cost £224 for four inc fitted and balanced and they look good on the car.

Re the Hankooks

Thanks for the recommendation

And, particularly, as fitted to the vRS.

As I said, according to the survey they seem to have virtually everything going for them.

195/45 gives 1.5% reduction in rolling circumference so basically nothing that can be noticed. 2.5% reduction in width but as one of the best tyres around they still outperform just about anything else

I switched from 205/45 Michelin Pilot Primacy to 195/45 Michelin Pilot Exalto 2 primarily to get the gearing right for my 1.4 mpi. Side effect is that the ride is just as good, if not better, and the grip particularly in the wet is certainly better. OK they are pricey, around £380 for a set of four BUT wear so far is good 12,000 miles so far and looking like to fronts will do 18-20,000.

Am partially sold on using 195s, especially the lower prices + I've found in the past that wider tyres can be a real pain in wet conditions, but what about the rim protection factor with the tyres being narrower ?
