If the MR2 I buy either has pants tyres, or worn tyres I shall be replacing all four with Kumho KU31's

Brisk driving today, I just cant fault the grip, at all.

Khumo Ecsta's - Great tyres ALL ROUND and cheap!!!

Just think its worth pointing out, the Kumhos are good tyres yes, but when warm are not as good as the Neros. I've got them screeching quite a lot when cornering, albeit at very high speed.

I just think they are stunning value for money, certainly worth a try imho.

Have recently switched from falken ze512 to toyo's. The toyos seem to grip better especially in the wet.

It's between 5 brands for my next front tyres then:

Toyo Proxes T1-R,

Pirelli P Zero Nero,

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3,

Kumho KU31,

and Continental Sport-Contact 2.

I'm after the best for grip on both wet and dry and the best lastability for mileage.

Kuhmo are £55 on mytyres.co.uk. I just bought 4 P Zero Nero for £248 off there, but the price has gone up since. Wait a few days it might come down again.

Right, i've decided to go with the Goodyear Eagle F1's on the front of my car now. I was tempted by the Toyo's and Kumho's but having read some reviews on various websites, decided that the Goodyears would be the better tyre. :D I've now got the original Continental Eco-Contact 2's(?) on the back and replacing my Dunlops with the Goodyears. :D Just hope they last longer than the Dunlops did!!

im on my 2nd set of Uniroyal rainsport II

fantastic in dry and even better in the wet. ;)

Had to change the Contact2's on the front at 15k as they were like slicks. Went for Eagle F1's and they seem like good tyres although very noisey. Great grip (must be as my mpg went down by around 3 :) ).

The Contact2's on the back both have 7mm left and I'm at 20k now. Would have lasted till 40k if both didn't have a nail in them so they need replacing. Not sure whether to get another pair of Eagle F1's (cost £178 fitted at a local garage) or to go for the cheap Kumho's KU31 at only £106 a pair from tyretraders.com and pay to get them fitted.

If they're only for the back, then i'd go for the Kumho's.

Do the back wheels/tyres not need to be as good as the fronts.?

All these people making mod's to their suspension and fitting ARB's.....

The first (and only) point of contact with the road is your tyres, make sure you fit the best you can. either that, or don't drive fast.

Now the price between T1-R and Eagle F1 are roughly the same, would you still rate T1-R over F1? Quote from blackcircle(205/45/16 checked today 05/06/06): T1R 82.16 fitted, F1 83.43 fitted.

Mytyres don't even have T1-R available (checked today 05/06/06).

Due to a tyre related emergency had 2 continental sport contacts fitted last week - are these similar to the CSP 2's? they seem pretty good to me even with only a couple of hundred miles in them...

I had some of the old sport contacts fitted to my old C2 GT, and they seemed to be fine, wear better than the contact 2, but done seem to be much difference in performance....

I've got Pirreli P6000 on my Superb, cant fault em, excellent wet and dry performance. they are 225 45 17's though and cost me £110 each, fitted balanced etc etc.

Had Michelins (not bad, bit screechy when pressing on) got Pirelli P Zero Neros now quite impressed so far, you always know what they're doing, nice progressive break away, controlable, Hmmm.... BORING! think I'll try Goodyears next.

As the Man says "these things are all that contact you with the road" so, buy the best you can afford. You know it makes sense! :D

 Killed the two front ones in under 10k.

The replacements are not proving to be such a happy experience, as both appear to be warped.

I think I am going to have to buy cheaper tyres just to get me over Xmas vibration free

This goes against my personal creedo of "buy the best you can afford" but I've just spend too much on my kids for Crimbo and I've little dosh left. :o

Prior to sale skoda fitted a Michelin Pilot Exalto on mine in place of one of the Conti SC2's

Are these now standard fit?

Had to have another fitted due to bulge in tyre wall and remaining contis wearing rapidly so soon a full set of Pilot Exalto's.

As they are on the rear at the moment can't really comment on performance. Will let you know what they are like when the fronts are swapped - quite an expensive tyre though - 90 + VAT

I normally recommend the Pirelli P Zero Neros for a "cost not important" tyre - they really are awesome.

Not far behind, I had the Kumho Ecstas, and was VERY impressed - nearly as good as the Nero in every way, except the price is nice too.

Now I have the Michellin Pilot Exalto PE2s, and I rate these very highly indeed, somewhere between the Kumho and the Nero in wet and dry grip, but where these excel is in noise - they are so quiet! Not cheap, but again a good, well recommended tyre. :)

Just onto my third set of fronts @ 52,000 miles. Opted for the OEM Michelin Pilot Primacys as the previous pair lasted a staggering 30,000 miles (Although my vRS does mainly motorway miles) and the all-round performance has been excellent, especially wet-weather grip. The Primacys cost

Ive been running Continental's SportContact2 tyres on the front wheels for a few weeks now and they are pretty different compared to the Premacy's i was running. They seem to have much more grip compared the Michelins partly aided by the wider contact patch but they the down sidd to them at the moment is that they are noiser. Though i guess its due to fact theres no real tread pattern as such, just several large bands of rubber around the tyre.

Evneing folks.

Our new vRS has got the Sport contact 2 tyres fitted. I've only done 15 miles or so on them so far, and it's already apparent that they are a bit louder at 50mph upwards (compared to the Michelin Pilot Primacy that we had on our previous vRS). I'm hoping we should get a good mileage out of these tyres, but I have a feeling they are going to wear quickly with me driving!

I still can't beleive that we only had two sets of front tyres (Pilot primacy) on our old vRS in 50000 miles...

Cheers

Andy
