Kessy Not Working

Featured Replies

New Octavia 2021 eTech de Technology. The kessy system isn’t working properly, it lets me start the car with the key in my pocket. But it won’t let me open or lock the doors, I have to use the buttons on the key fob.

Do I need to adjust the settings to enable it?

Cheers

I’ve got an SE Tech but it didn’t come with keyless entry, only keyless start. There are still the ‘buttons’ for keyless opening on the door handle whether you have keyless entry or not.

Thought that was the case, just a bit confusing when I saw the door handle indentations. I rang the dealer and they told me to bring it in.

I suppose that also means it doesn’t have auto folding mirrors? I do miss these from my old SE L.

I ordered mine last year and that was the case then. No folding mirrors either, and annoyingly no option to add them 👎

The SE Tech was the only option for a petrol auto at the time or I would have gone with an SEL for these extras

Kessy comes in two flawors, half and full kessy. If you have keyless start option but no door operation you have the "half" one. However check the settings in infotainement even for full kessy it is possible to turn it off,

I have full KESSY but often this happens:

 - I'm standing next to the car

 - the doors are unlocked

 - I want to open the door

but the moment I touch the handle, it locks

Then I try again and it unlocks and opens.  (by "try again" I mean "I release the handle and then grab it again")

Is this some fault? Or am I holding it wrong?

When unlocking/ opening grab the handle but do not touch the small indent used for locking. Same when locking only touch the small indent and no other part of the handle.

Every day is a school day!!!  I didn't realise the small indent was for locking.

I really should read the manual one of these days.

This is probably the reason. I'll pay more attention next time.

But it still feels as bad design.

Maybe the locking should happen after the user releases the handle. That way, it he wants to open the door, it would open, and if he touched the small indent (and release it immediately, like I do) then it would lock.

I never had any issues. When opening doors try not to grab the handle with the full hand, instead just put 4 fingers behind the handle (don't grab the handle with your thumb) and pull.

I prefer just to turn off Kessy completely and use the fob in the old fashioned way, I feel it’s safer and more secure but then again I am of a certain age!

It happened two times that car unlocked when I approached it. The keys were in my pocket.

Is that normal?

I came to about 1-2 m distance and it unlocked (the lock sound and the lights blink).

Was it raining at the time?

When I was washing my car, with the key in my pocket, it would lock and unload all by itself. Put the key in the house and it was fine.

No, it was sunny both times.

For the record: it happened again today

Not on VAG but another make, had it were if you go within 1-2m it opens the mirrors but doesn’t actually unlock the car until you grab the handle.

Xerces8 are you 100% sure it’s actually unlocking or just opening out the mirrors. (if you have folding mirrors)?

I think I read somewhere there is a setting to enable/disable unlock on approaching the vehicle. As my one is at the dealers I can’t go check…

It opens the foldable mirrors, unlocks ( I hear the click sound of the locks) and blinks the lights.

I will check next time if the doors are really unlocked, but I am 99% they are (otherwise either I could not open them, or would hear another click when it really unlocks).

You can. I did it but when I took the dog out for a walk and passed the car it unlocked. I know it would re lock but it was a pain and as you still have to grab the handle to open the door it's pointless.I turned it off again.

For me it only happens only every tenth time. Otherwise I have to touch the handle to unlock.

What is the name of this option, in which menu?

On the MkIV SEL 1st Ed you can access a central locking option via the vehicle menu and disable Kessy completely for those of us suspicious of keyless entry.

I tried again: approached the car with key in my pocket. Nothing happened.

i had the same "problem" we actually dont have full kessy only half kessy. Only kesy start engine

Do you have a mobile phone next to your car key? Sometimes my car doors do not open (boot opens always) but it starts fine and I found out that it happens when the key is in the pocket together with the mobile phone. Then I started putting this key into another pocket and it seems to work. Probably some overlapping frequencies or so.
