Volvo S60R Ultimate Sleeper?

Featured Replies

The Volvo S60R. Boring as hell you may think, however it might just surprise and embarass a few other fast cars (even the Fabia vRS!)

Go on, put me off....

0 - 62 mph 5.7 Seconds

Top Speed 155 mph (limited)

2.5 litre, turbocharged engine which produces 300bhp at 5500 rpm

large ventilated disc brakes on the front and rear and aluminum four-piston brake callipers.

Volvo AWD system.

Flat cap and pipe optional extras.

There's a reason why the Cumbrian Police force have a black S60 T5 patroling the A66 - Noboby suspects it!!

I quite like the look of them - very stealthy.

I prefer the V70R to the S60R.

The only give away to the car's performance is the labrador mashed against the rear screen

i do like this car,i remember when the local dealer had one in and had a nosey about it,the salesman meationed that you can get them chipped to 330bhp by some dealers.:censored:

Yep, like the look of that and like the S60 range as a whole. A friend has the D5 diesel version, and that's very nice - comfortable and not a bad turn of speed.

Only thing that would concern me would be the handling, even with 4WD. My Dad had a V70 T5 for a while; FWD admittedly but it didn't like corners...

Steve

I have had an S60 T5 and a V70R AWD, both of them fantastic cars, and still "tweakable"

the S60 in particluar was fantastic, more of a 2 + 2 as the rear had limited headroom, but supremely comfortable, excellent performance, good dealer service from Rybrooks. 2 weeks out of Warranty a brake sensor went and disbaled the cruise control on the S60, they swapped it out FOC (thats out of warranty skoda mole, not a 2 week old car that got wet)

Fuel economy was ermm between scooby and octy vrs territory, comfort is something else (as in fantastic) and the premium sound system the best I have heard on a car. Seats adjustable every which way you like.

don't hesitate, do it man

Great car.Only downside is it is a saloon not a hatch.I think that limits you a bit.

Maybe not though

One of our directors has one , and it's a very nice car indeed.

Second hand values appear to offer a hell of a lot of car for the money.

There's three suspension settings; comfort, Sport and Advanced Sport which tightens up the suspension and the chassis!

I usually change my mind like the wind when it comes to cars but I've liked this one evver since it came out. I'd imagine the boot is large enough to fit the Mrs's wheelchair in as well....

I've seen a company in Brum that specialises in tuning Volvo's and can remap the R to 340BHP.....:D

The R series has a tweaked chassis, they are far better than the stock T5 stuff, but they are not meant for the tight b roads, but more the rapid A roads. Sadly Volvo were being quite ambitious with the anticipated power and not that many R's had 300hp out of factory. In addition there appears to be an on going issue with the AWD system ? That said they are still very brisk, and at £15k for a decent used example they have plenty of kit on and appear to be reliable.

As for the Ultimate Q car, I would personally say that award goes to the Hartge H1. A 5.0 V8 450hp monster !

And a bargain at £75,000  Think what else there is for that sort of money, M5, Merc CLS, TVR's, 2nd hand Ferraris, all sorts of exotic stuff, the list is endless, afraid the Hartge would not be at the top of mine...

Hartge must have some very large crowbars in the workshop...

Check the wheelchair first m8, the boot aperture is very narrow, the boot is "ok" size wise, nothing like an Octy, but the opening is quite Narrow, and it has a false floor for a bottle rack and things for hanging carrier bags off etc etc (I think they just get in the way imho).

If the company in brum is volvotuninguk.com then they are outstanding, they did my T5 to 310bhp and it went like stink, they have got a full VADIS system on site and the dealers actually send a lot of the R range to them for tweaks and tuning.

:orb_love_ oh wow I think something happened in my pants...

Yeah go for it!....pukka pukka car:thumbup: ....not to keen on the Toscana Tan leather in some of the R's though!

I had an s60 as a courtesy car a few years back for a week or so. It was the D5 and that was very impressive. A lovely car, well built and safe. Used to fly on kickdown.

The S60R or V70R would be one of my choices if it wasn't for running costs etc.

Great choice

I went to the Volvo dealers today and had a look at one of these

Well out of my price range but what a stunning car in the metal. The roof mechanism is a work of art and virtually silent. A definite step in the right direction for Volvo. It just oozes quality. Right, where did I put those winning lottery tickets?

I quite like the S60 from outside but I still can't bring myself to like the dash layout . . . it's a little too utilitarian, even by VAG standards.

Was taken out in a new XC-70, D5 on Tuesday (185bhp :D) and was very impressed. :D

Chris

But theoretically... all the tweekability these volvos have..... focus st? :D:D

ok maybe not as Q-car... well it would be against M3 type metal
