I’ve driven 300 miles or so over the weekend and whether it’s because of my new hearing aids, but on anything but smooth roads, the tyre noise has been quite intrusive.  The car is a 2018 SE L 1.4 TSI.

looks like I’ll be replacing the tyres, what is recommended for producing less noise?

What is the tyre size? For example, 225/45R17 94V.

What is the make and model. For example, Bridgestone Turanza T005.

All these details are moulded into the sidewalls of the tyres.

if not all, tyre manufacturers include a drive by decibel rating in the description,

Thanks, I’d not realised that a decibel rating was published, that’s a help, I was just expecting recommendations from personal experience.

Goodyear Asy 5s are quiet. I have the 19s with 235 section and dont get a huge amount of noise.

Avon zv7s are very quite made my vrs a pleasure to be in after the bridgestones .

Probably best to move this thread to the tyre forum. I've got hearing aids and they are not attuned to tyre noise. Noise is noise inside or outside. A Standard test. How many potential combinations are there in each model range? Oh, we'll take a thousand Mercedes variants with say 100 tyre types and brands. Gies a break Jimmy.

May as well wear the current ones down first! A quiet tyre will only do so much for the noisy mk3 Octavia. Lack of sound insulation is the issue, so don't expect miracles... I'm OK with it because the car does most other things really well.

Having said that, I do choose tyres with the lowest dB rating over anything else. My local garage swears by Davanti tyres for noise (or lack of) so I'll be trying these next.

Something like Goodyear efficient grip performance might suit your purpose. There are several differnt versions of this tyre though all with different noise levels, so make sure you go for the right one if you choose this. I have run Sava intensa UHP before now and they have been very quiet, but no so quiet on 16 inch wheels. Tyres are very personal and one mans ditchfinder, is anoth mans perfection, you pays your money and takes your chance, don't think you'll go wrong with efficient grips though. https://www.mytyres.co.uk/rshop/tyre/Goodyear/EfficientGrip-Performance/205-55-R16-91V-AO/R-419280.

Thanks again all, I suppose one answer is to turn the hearing aids off!

I have a set of efficient grips on some 18s that I need rid of*. West Herts isn't a million miles away from me in Basingstoke. They have only done a few 100 miles. You can have them for less than they cost and I'll chuck in the wheels. Let me know if interested. I'll be putting them up for sale in the next few weeks.

*don't own a car that will take them any longer
