Oil change joy ride.

Featured Replies

I took my car for an oil change and to swap the winter tyres to the summers about a month ago.

I just reviewed my dashcam and I can see the car was taken out twice for a joy ride? Not sure if it was the same person or multiple people.

They didn't let the car warm up, revved it high and drove it at around 120 kph in a 50 and 70 limit area and down some very narrow back roads. No consideration for someone else's property I can hear them hitting potholes, squeezing past other cars, etc.

They have also scratched one wheel when changing the tires and it looks like they rolled the tyres out of the boot because I have a load of swirl marks and a scratch/chipped paint on it. :x

What would you do?

Well - I wouldn’t be using them again…………

@skodamax

Are you intending talking with the Owner/ owners of the establishment and not just the manager if it is a manager running the place?

No... They are a main dealership too.

Yep, I am going to speak with them today. I wanted to check to see what other people's reaction would be.

On this basis, ask for the "dealer principal".

Okay thanks for the tip. I'm living in Poland right now so we will see how it goes talking with them :D

What.....!

After reading your post I wrongly assumed it was the local tyre fitting shed, not the main dealer. Scandalous, I'd be making a big fuss and if they don't make amends I'd be on to Skoda UK customer services.......:punch:

Ah, maybe I should have been more clear. Yep it was a main dealership here in Poland. I saw the mark on the bumper when I collected the car but I thought I would leave it as it is being replaced anyway because someone damaged it when I was in Switzerland on holiday earlier in the year but after reviewing the dashcam I'm really not happy.

Collate your evidence and present it to the dealer principle/senior management, also threaten to take to the police.

I would be LIVID!

So I spoke with them, and they didn't seem too concerned about it. Apparently, test driving the car is normal. They said because it was a month ago they are not sure what they can do but they will call me within 24 hours to let me know. :x

Obviously if they don't fix it, I'll speak with the police and email Skoda PL. Here in Poland driving 120 kph in a 50 limit is an instant ban.

Very upset with the outcome. I'm also worried about taking my car back to them for the bumper + rear light repairs they are supposed to be carrying out from a separate incident (someone's car slid on ice when they were parking and bumped into mine :crying:)

Im sorry but ragging a customers car around IS NOT a test drive and would be very unlikely to be covered by their insurance.

I would suggest that you request thier insurance company details so that you can report them and show your evidence. That should get you an outcome :punch:

Showing the Dealer Principal & Skoda PL the dashcam footage might change the attitude of the Dealer Principal, surely they have a record of who has access to customers keys and who does 'Road Tests'.

I would be f+^%"** furious about this, totally unacceptable to drive a customers' car in this manner, but let the dealership see the video and then they can make a judgement.  If that doesn't get some action tell them you will give the video to the media to name and shame them.

BUT, what do want to achieve at the end of all this apart from a deserved apology, financial compensation, free services, get someone sacked?

As I said I would NOT be happy, but to be honest I don't know what would placate me in such an instance, take to another dealership in future, sometimes easier to say than do if they are 100's kms apart.

Good luck and I hope that you get to some kind of resolution.

What would you do?

I wasted a couple of hours waiting at the garage for my car to have the work done, which limits the opportunity for them joy-riding my car.

I'd be onto Poland's equivalent of Trading Standards for advice, in your case.

Coppertop asked the right question, what outcome are you looking for?

You speak about them "fixing it", fixing what? If something was broken then they could fix it, only you will know what it will take to fix your trust in them which was broken so you need to tell them what it is you require.

I do not understand what is the purpose of sending a video to their insurers unless the OP has a claim to make, and they are unlikely to pass on the details of their insurer under any other circumstances.
