SD card for different part of the world.

Featured Replies

Hi All.  Relatively new to Skoda ownership, unless you count owning an S110L for a while back in the 70s.  Have just taken delivery of a 2019 Octavia MKIII vRS 245.  It is an ex-UK car that has very recently been imported to New Zealand.  VIN TMBBU7NE1K0044635.

Not sure if anyone can help re how to get the nav going in the new part of the world.

Car originally had a European SD card (5L0 051 236AH).  Got a new SD card from Skoda NZ (5L0 051 236 BD) for “World”.  When I load the SD card I get the following messages:

“Reading SD Card”

and

“The source contains the navigation database”

However, when I try the Nav program I get “Navigation database unavailable”

Anyone have any ideas before I trot off to the dealer?

Thanks.

Can you tell us what files are on the card?

Hi.  The files are as in the picture below.

Probably the best thing to do would be to visit the Skoda update portal, enter your vin number and download a new set of maps from there and then format the sd card and install the new set.

Thanks for that. Will I be able to do that using my Mac or will I have to use a pc?

You can do it on a Mac BUT the Mac will install onto the SD card some temporary files that the Amundsen will not like and make it reject the SD card - so after copying the files onto the SD card you will need to remove the temporary files by running a Mac program such as Clean Eject or Blue Harvest.

Thank you. I will give that a try.

Hmmmm. Just went to the update portal and entered my VIN and the program only gives a number of different European maps as download options.  Maybe I need to get Skoda NZ to enter my VIN in the local database?

... or visit the VW map update website (the VW and Skoda maps are identical) https://app-connect.volkswagen.com/mapupdates/download/#download

Select Golf from 2017, then Discover Media (VW name for Amundsen), and download World - Bundle 3

Always thought Apple was a pain in the butt. This proves it.

I've just had a play about purely for testing purposes and unfortunately the World map will not load on my Amundsen MIB2 either. I am get exactly the same 3 messages as the OP. I even done a factory reset of the navigation settings. I suspect that some settings may need to be adapted using VCDS but due to my work commitments I haven't got the time to look at it. Maybe tomorrow I might be able to look further into it.

Try and get a refund. You don't need that card. Do as PetrolDave suggested. Download the VW World map for free - it's exactly the same as the Skoda map - and use it on your existing card. You shouldn't have to pay for a new map as your current sd card is quite sufficient. Unfortunately, it won't work though until we find out if the car or unit needs any re-coding.

I think the map region is protected by a FeC which Skoda won't sell you...

You will probably need to find someone who can hack the headunit and add the appropriate FeC for you :)

Thanks everyone.  Just thinking ahead if all else fails, if I took it to the dealer would Skoda be able to re-code the head unit with the appropriate FeC?

A Skoda dealer will only be able to apply the FeC's applicable for the VIN so they won't be able to change the map region FeC for you.

@pab567 might be able to help though...
