A few thoughts after it’s first wash!

Featured Replies

Now looking all clean and shiny!

my initial thoughts after a weeks ownership

  • have always had red cars in recent years. Must say business grey does seems to clean up/dry nicely with a little sparkle/fleck to it so I think it will reasonably easy to keep it looking good?
  • Black plastic rear bumper looks like it may scuff up with time  (I suspect plastic side lower door panels won’t be so bad). - what are people using to clean/protect the plastic panels? Can’t remember the last time if at all I had a car with plastic bumpers?
  • Is the front face of the 18” bragas diamond  cut? If not, it is very similarly to that finish  and seems a slightly different finish to the rest of the alloy? I think they look great but are quite fiddly to clean so have protected them with Collinite 845 wax
  • nice to see when opening the doors that the sills are more or less spotless - I have still ordered door sill scuff plates from Ali express though 😀
  • I can just about reach the middle of the roof panel to clean it without a step ladder!
  • Have also got to grips with the varioflex seats - have also done the s hooks and magnet mod to help tether the rears seats to the front headrest tubes when when folded forward

Is this the place to fess up that we’ve had our Karoq for 1 year and 4 days and not washed it yet?  It’s due its first service in Jan, I’m sure it will wait until then.

that's fine,  4x4's don't need washing :biggrin::biggrin:

I wash mine every 3 months or so whether it needs it or not!

I used to say that about annual wash at the service, now it’s every two years! :D

This is upsetting me.........

Mine gets washed every Sunday morning, with a midweek wash of the wheels to clear the brake dust...!

And if I'm on earlies in work and there is no one around, a quick swill over outside the office....!

Can someone elaborate on the s hook magnet mod please if it relates to securing the rear seats when they are flipped down and forward? I can just about hook the side seats to the front headrests but there is no danger I can hook the middle one, there's just not enough length!

It is long enough, you just have to pull harder!

Pull the hook out hard vertically first and only then try to hook it to the headrest. If you pull and try together it doesn't work.

I have also just done this. Bought 100mm s hooks and craft magnets from the range. I found that the fitted bungee cords are so tight they cut into the front seat back/headrest when used. This way it is still tight but not quite so tight - even then I plan to use a cloth or similar to prevent marking/creasing between the s hook /bungee and front seat back/headrest

Exactly as mistac has just posted. I got my S hooks from Wilko - a couple of quid for several.  Yes, the bungees are still a tight stretch, but the hooks work fine.

Just a pity the central seat in the Varioflex seats won't tilt forward as far as the outside seats.

The entire Varioflex system as fitted is all a bit surplus for (I suspect) 99% of owners - I'd have much preferred the regular 60 / 40 system with a proper armrest and a backplate.

I just wish they were easier (and lighter) to take out and put back!  But I'm with you on the armrest/missing ski hatch.

Are you sure you are doing it right? There are 2 straps you need to pull to make the middle seat tilt upright just as much as the other 2 seats.

First you pull one of the straps, then the seat folds to 90%, then you pull the second strap that is revealed and then the seat folds extra bit and then you push it up right.

Everyone has their own favourite, I use Autoglym's bumper and trim gel on the lower bumpers and side panels. It's messy to put on, I use a small sponge, and a 1"  round brush for the honecomb lower grille moulding, but it has a nice ripe fruit smell!

You can get a bumper sill plate from many places - Skoda, Superskoda (now Kopacek), fleabay, etc, but I've used Richard Grant Mouldings - rgmautomotive.co.uk -  for four different motors.  I've a photo in an earlier post.

I'm only a short@rse 5'6", so a step is mandatory to clean the roof. Got one of those small plastic folding ones, just gives me an extra 6 inches, so to speak.

That was a major motivation for me in choosing the SportLine!

Just had a go.  That's so simple it's brilliant!  Thanks.  Shows I should've read the instructions - but why change the habit of a lifetime.  Even then I didn't see the bit about removing the headrest first.

Now, could you make them weigh about a kilo each?

I had this seating in 3 Yetis and it has been so useful over the years. Have even had all seats out of my Karoq several times when a van equivalent is needed.

Fold the centre seat and you have an armrest with drink holders or a ski hatch which is much bigger than a pull out rest and small door.

Yes, but it's a bit of a faff folding up and down compared with that on my Octy, and it leaves the hole through to the boot, which to my sensitive eye isn't aesthetically pleasing.  :)

Gave my 3 month old Sportline a decent wash and then polished all of the car and alloy wheels too. My OCD got the better of me so I placed the centre cap "arrow" pointing towards the tyre valve.

Re washing, my K came with a full set of Autoglim washing and waxing potions. I felt it was only good manners to use them. Needless to say it's the first time I've EVER waxed a car I own in nearly 40 years. I was rather surprised to find how much difference waxing makes to keeping a car clean. It's certainly easier to hose off the dust and pollen between washes.

And boy, it looks brand new again after a waxing!
