Sorry to revive an old post, but do you remember/know which fuses you puggybacked off?

I've got a garmin mini 2 and looking to hardwire it into the fusebox to utilise parking mode too

I'm proper OCD when it comes to cables on view but why not just use the USB socket on the side of the rear view mirror base? I used a 25cm cable to reach to the camera so there is no coiled cables to hide and as it's all black the cable isn't even noticeable unless you sit and look at it on purpose.

Because as far as I've understood, that port is only powered on ignition. So as soon as the ignition is off and car is locked, the camera won't have power for parking mode?

Apologies...... I missed that in your post.

That is correct, and to be fair, going straight to the fuse box looks tidier anyway as the cable goes straight up and under the headliner.

I'm trying to decide whether or not to go with this.

I collect the car (new to me) sometimes WC 17th June so will need to sort it out soon after.

What's all the hype about Park Mode?

Just means the camera can still be powered/record whilst the car is unattended. So if a typical motorist hits you in a carpark, and drives off, most camera's will either detect the bump and save a recording of the incident, or be continuously recording. It's usefulness depends on how you use the dashcam I guess, but for me the extra security of catching a numberplate/description if someone damages my car without witnesses, it's worth it.

Perhaps WaveyDavey can help with this....  I completely agree about not wanting lots of visible cable!  I'm just about to acquire a late 2023 Octavia e-TEC SE L and have a Nextbase 312 dashcam in my current (2015) Octavia. I understand there is a "5th USB socket in the rear view to power it". Do I understand from your picture that it's actually in the mirror base (not the actual back of the mirror) and can you tell me where you get the little short cable with the right connector? The dashcam socket looks like the older USB mini type so I wonder if such a cable is even available.

The usb-c port is in the side of the mirror ‘base’, on the right hand side (drivers in UK).

A short cable (~30cm) is available on Amazon but the ones I got were about 5mm too short for my NextBase. In the end I gave up and use a longer one and a zip tie to hold the excess neatly in place.

BTW, I have the dashcam on the passenger side away from the port.

Had my FITCAMX installed today, tidy job, setup app, will return some pics later.

The socket on the Octavie mirror mount is USB C.  The Nextbase 312GW appears to have a mini USB socket.  You will need a USB C to USB mini cable (search on that term).  Since the Skoda socket is on the right of the mirror support it is best fitted using a right angle USB C connector as shown in the pictures above.

Here’s some pics. Tidy install, very discreet too. Front Cam replaces the original plastic shroud and is almost the identical size. 🫶🏼

My camera has a micro USB socket so I got this short cable from Amazon which is USB-C to Micro USB. It's the perfect length for my camera as can be seen in the pics from when i installed it. :)

Can we see more pictures of the dashcam, from inside and from the outside? Does it hang below the rearview mirror and obstruct the field of view?

Anyway that install looks really tidy! The first time hearing about the company, might give them a try. :)

Hi Everyone, Just interested to see what brands/models if dashcams people are using in the Mk4 Octavia.

Specifically ones that are 5 volt powered and being used with the USB-C port by the mirror, I've been looking at a few but many don't state what voltage they are even though in the majority of cases they are using a cigarette lighter plug to a USB end, so one would 'assume' they are 5v but I don't want to take a chance on ordering one that won't work!

Personally I'm looking for something that is as compact as possible and not overly expensive, not having an LCD screen is not a deal breaker for me.

Hopefully this will be of interest to others debating a dashcam purchase.

I am happy with mine

Hi, the shroud that was there previously also hung slightly below the height of the mirror (I’m vertically challenged though so if your taller then obviously you’ll see less 😀), sorry perhaps I should have done a before and after.

ill take more pics tomorrow and try and measure the various bits and bobs for you.

drove the car for the first time today so will also check the recording and try and share some pics or video..!

edit - this is the system I got.

Last one.

look, so, for me, no brainer if you want something completely OEM looking. If I was doing it again I would have spent the extra and got the 4k one.

Anyway job done, back to my other wishlist items!

Thank you for the pictures! The camera looks nice, I'll be contacting Fitcamx, probably only for front 4k camera! :)

Re: USB cable needed between dash cam and the USB-outlet at rearview mirror: does it need any special power delivery rating or will any cable with the right connectors work? I want the shortest possible cable (0.5 m) to minimise the wiring mess but at that length I can only get data cable without power delivery specification. Thanks for the advice.

Nope. I use a short 50cm angled and coiled cable.

No nothing special only thing I'd suggest is to get a cable that has a right angle plug at least at the socket end and possibly the camera end too if required.  I went for a 30cm cable with right angle plugs at each end for mine as can be seen in the pics earlier in this thread.

I’m going to be fitting a dashcam to my new to me Octavia iV. I have the dashcam, a Vantrue N4 Pro and am waiting for the hard wire kit as it won’t powerup from the USB-C next to the mirror. I’ve also picked up some tools to make it easier to route the rear camera. I’ll try to take photos as I fit it.
