Superb iV charging issue?

Featured Replies

Hi all. I finally got delivery of my Superb iV and loving it so far in its hatchback form.

I noticed tonight when I plugged it in after I completely emptied the battery that the charging cable was blinking on on the vehicle icon. Looking at the sticker on the back of the cable that is a warning on over current.

Should I be worried about that?

The red fault light did not come on...just the blinking light on the car icon or third column on the chart below indicating overcurrent or one of the other options.

Thanks

That appears to be (from the rating plate) a 10amp cable, presumably the one for plugging into a domestic socket.

If it has worked in same socket before, suggests system is struggling due to diminished battery.  Probably not best idea to use a low power charging solution for charging from empty.   Remember can get grants towards cost of home chargers.

Was this the first time you have used that cable in that particular socket, the possibility of it being a diode error makes me wonder if the socket is wired wrong (live and neutral crossed over). If so no idea what might be consequences.   Has your house had the recommended electrical test (normally max 10 year intervals or after alterations)

It does have a warning at bottom of photo of only using correctly installed sockets which unfortunately if that was the case would rather mean it’s your cost to rectify it.

Take it to a mate's house and try it...that will tell you if it's the car or your wiring. Strongly recommend a home charging point...mine from Pod Point (backed by Skoda) cost £420) with Government subsidy. I use it off-peak (Pod Point has a timer) to charge...four hours and less than 25 pence.

Hi @SurreyJohn

Yes it is the 3pin cable.

this is not the first time I charged it on this particular socket but the first time I noticed it. The car has only been with me for 10 days and I am yet to organise a charter though the grants are in place. Just waiting for an installation date before my Zappi charger gets installed.

As for my electrical installation, the house is s new build, only 2 years old and the cable is connected directly to an external socket that I never had issues before.

I have the Skoda set to charge immediately to 20% and the stop. It then charges to 100% between 00:30-04:30 to take advantage of the cheaper 5p per kWh rate on my tarriff. This is all set directly from the emanager on the car and it seems to work.

the fact I am not getting any red lights on the cable makes me think it is fine,?

dedicated charger should be in place soon hopefully but in the meantime I will try another socket.

I Need to go into the garage unfortunately to get them to reset the service Interval to time and distance as it is currently running off the build date and despite the fact I got delivery 10 days ago, it says service due in six months as it was build in January of this year. Not ideal as it us a four year lease and would rather not pay the fourth service. While I am there I will get them to test the cable as well.

I did also download done DTCs with OBDEleven and one of them was:

P33E000 - Target/actual current deviation too high ntermittent

Which has been mentioned here before.

maybe the two are related?

Thanks @Brockysuperb

That indeed will be my next step!

I have a Zappi charger incoming shortly so hopefully that would be it. I looked at the podpoint but as I am considering installing solar panels in the near future, the Zappi / myenergi solution was better Integrated

Thanks

Sorry to resurrect this thread after so long, but I'm having the same problem (with an Octavia iV) and was wondering how you resolved it?

In my case the connectors does not lock in place.  The app has the charge plug status as "Plugged" but the plug as "Unlocked".  No lights on the charging port of the car.

Thanks

And if @mm8718 replies, any feedback on your zappi charger would be interesting! (Thumbsup)

Same here, how did you get it fixed?

On my GTE there is a very short delay from starting to insert the plug into the car until it tries to lock the connector in place.  If you are too slow then the lock engages but the plug handshake fails and it wont charge.  A clean and swift insert of the plug is required to ensure it works.  Maybe a bit of practice is required.  I certainly replug sometimes to ensure it's working.  This is especially true if using the fat cable we use on the EV rather than the cable I normally use.

I had a problem where the charging cable lock wasn’t locking properly and the red light would turn on.

It turned out my 12V battery was low so after charging it everything started working fine
