Fabia Vrs vs Golf GTI Anniversary 150PD

Featured Replies

I thinking of selling my fabia vrs 05 (7k niles) for a 52 golf gti pd150 anniversary edition (37k miles). As i'm thinking of keeping one of the cars long term i was wondering which will keep its value and is the golf a better car?. the only pros i think are that the golf has a more spacious cabin, perhaps better handling and more stable. your thoughts please!

a bigger turbo :D

I driven both and my thoughts are... the engine in the golf is a a little slower to respond, but when it does, it is a little stronger. It doesn't seem to drop off the power either, the acceration seems as though it is getting stronger and stronger as you get closer to the redline, unlike the fabia that drops off a bit! TBH the ride/handling/controls all felt VERY similar to the fabia, you could almost forget what car you were in! Cabin is nicer in the golf as there's a few more expensive details which makes more enjoyable to be in. Blue dials too.

CONS: The VAN handle on the back! :thumbdwn: What were they thinking!!

Er, I'd probably go for the Anniversary Golf tbh. They have nicer wheels ;)

The PD150 has more lag as it's a bigger turbo, but it is able to keep the boost better, that's why it can pull harder for longer.

I could quite happily live with it, has good fuel economy and handles well :)

Golf will hold its value better because a) it's a VW and B) its a Golf. Is there also more modding potential out of the PD150 too?

Chris

The pd150 lag can be improved by remapping.

Also has better intercooler

IMHO, the Golf looks nicer

The Golf has propper climate control.

Ex mk4 Golf owner here: The cabin is 'slightly' bigger, but you won't notice the difference really. You sit slightly lower in a Golf too.

Cabin wise, the trim in the mk4 is several classes above the Fabia in feel, but it's a similar layout and has a familiar feel to it. Lots of the trim in the mk4 has a rubbery coating and this is prone to peeling - very expensive to replace some items. The Anni wheels are notorious for needing re-ferbing due to the chrome finish.

The steering and suspension feel much slower and heavier than on a Fabia, but it feels much more planted in corners.

Extra lag is really because of the huge intercooler, as said above - remapping will help out here.

Long term the Anni will get the nod as the best place to put your money as long as you buy it at a sensible price.

I was looking at one of these before i got the fabia, they are very expensive and for the same money i paid for the 31k 53 reg vrs i could have got a golf tdi 150 02 reg with 70k on for slightly more which i thought was daft!!Remap to 190 Tho but also carry the group 15 insurance as opposed to group 9 for the Fab.

A car is always a poor investment - put the money in the bank and get a bus pass!

TRUE - in 99% of circumstances.

Thanks everyone some really positive comments, i still undecided at the moment

I've driven a Bora TDI 130 and Furby vRS, I know you're talking about the golf but space wise the Bora is the same as far as I know and although there may be more space in the Bora it isn't used that well (big dashboard), the Fabia has a bit more leg room in the back. The Bora I've driven hasn't got sports suspension so can't really compare drive although it does seem more planted to the road (that maybe the saloon body), I'd be suprised if the Golf handled a lot better than the Fabia to be honest.

stick with the Skoda mate. Coming from a Subaru background I decided to step down and move to a performance diesel with economy. The VW Golf stood out as the main contender but I found it impossible to find one in the condition I wanted. That's when I fell upon the VRS. I can live with the stigma folks try and relay but it's such a well made little car I overlook opinion.

The VW did feel like a nicer car inside, agreed, more roomy and like the cockpit its built round the driver. I think the Skoda is the better deal I will save you money in servicing costs and insurance long term if you are talking about loosing out.

buy an Octavia! Same inside as the golf but got the extra value of being an Octavia!

Isn't the Golf on variable servicing so only needs a service every couple of years?
