Oil useage

Featured Replies

I have a 2015 scout 2.0 tdi 170kms & it’s using a lot of oil

on a long run last week 1400kms it used 750ml

its not smoking at all & there’s doesn’t appear to be a leak & its running fine

it was serviced less than 3 months ago & now it’s telling me it needs servicing again in 4000kms!

anyone have any idea what I should do?

Hi, sorry to hear your having problems with your car. Regarding the loss of oil, I would look for any oil leaks around the oil filter housing if the car was recently serviced. Also it may be worth removing the undertray to see if any oil has dripped onto it and check nothing is leaking on the and back of the engine. Another check you can do I remove the intake pipes leading into and out of the turbo, if they have a lot of oil in them it could mean you turbo is on its way out. The turbo can also be checked for excessive play by examining if there is any play in the turbine shaft. If the engine has been regularly serviced using the proper oil I don't think should be burning that much oil however I my knowledge is very limited as an amateur mechanic.

Regarding the service indicator, the garage may not have reset it when they serviced your car.

I hope this helps and good luck with finding the problem.

What service regime is it on. \time and distance or variable long life?  How many kms since the service 3 months ago.  First place is to check for oil leaks under engine, maybe remove under tray and use an inspection lamp. Look from top of engine as well, but views are usually restricted.
