SKODA FABIA MK2 WASHER FLUID HELP

Featured Replies

HIya, I own a skoda fabia 2008 1.2L htp. I have my driving test soon and I need to get the washer fluid problem sorted. When I press the fluid stalk in the car I can here the motor trying to work however all the fluid just leaks out near the front left tyre. I don't know if its just a simple fix like a pipe disconnection or if the pipe has fully split. Where is the pipe located underneath the hood, and where shall I look for any disconnections? need to try an identify the problem so I can get it fixed asap!

Thanks.

You need to remove front left wheel take out screws that hold wheel liner out remove screws that hold the plastic protection plate to the underside of the bumper and the inner wing part of the car,  you can then bend down the plastic panel and take a look inside where the washer bottle is located, some times the pipe has just come off or split but mostly the pipe connection to the pump has snapped off and then you have to remove the whole unit or wangle it to a position where you can remove the pump to replace it, shop around as a new pump can cost around £50, so hope it's just a pipe off or broken, can be joined with a new pipe and a straight connection

Thank you, I’ll have a go at that. My pump still works as I can hear it when I push my stick in to activate the pump. So I’m hoping for a loose connection somewhere and then I can just plug it back in. Is that the only connection point at the pump? So if it was a loose connection that would be the only place it will be disconnected at

Probably a loose connection but otherwise might be a split pipe. There is a repair kit that can re-join broken pipes but to do your MOT, perhaps wrap it with duck tape for a temporary repair.

Yh think it’s a split pipe as some washer fluid does come out and most leaks out. How can you access the pipe, can you see it from under the bonnet or only that side wheel arch?

ive got my driving test on Monday so need to get it fixed before then :)

Is there not a join where that hose passes through the firewall/bulkhead into the cabin area, below the ABS pump/valve block assembly?

That info is not from my personal experience, but gleaned from VW Group motoring forums!

Edit:- ah, I see leak source now discovered, maybe consider sticking to the same thread for a single issue in future.

The hoses will connect at the pump and may be one or two connections (Front and rear wiper may have separate ones). If as you say, its near the wheel, it sounds as though its either come off or partly come off, from th pump.

The message murdockman left will help there.

There is also a joint where the pipe goes in to two, underneath the plastic scuttle or bulkhead, and then into the jets. This can come apart, too and a new bit is only a few quid. If you cannot get it sorted, my advise will be to thoroughly clean the windscreen, both front and back, along with the wipers and keep calm. If the wipers are all functioning correctly, and if the rear wash/wipe works, at least you know its only the pipework to the front. There is a fairly small chance the examiner will ask you to wash and wipe the front screen and this is more likely, if it looks dirty to start with. If some fluid still comes out of the jets, and you can still use the function, the examiner should be ok with that.

They may well ask you a different show/tell question as it may be opening/closing a window, operating heated front/rear screen, etc so its just a lucky dip, there. If they ask for it and you know the rears work, do them and if they still want the fronts done, do them but stay focussed on the driving, not if there is a good supply of fluid. The idea is to see you know the functions of the car, not that you can clean them time after time, like driving in general.

Additionally, if you fail to answer one/ both of either the show or tell part of the questions you will only receive a minor fault, anyway. So it cannot in itself, fail you but can potentially put you over the 15 minor faults, zone. This ar any one serious/dangerous fault, will then be a fail. Under 15 and no serious/dangerous will be a pass. once the examiner is happy the car is fit for test, (Tyres, lights, etc, look ok,  L-plates fitted, headrest for the examiner, along with a mirror for him/her to use,( like your drivers interior one) then you will already be en route, so to speak anyway so finding no fluid is unlikely to affect the outcome. If the screen is clean or if its rainy anyway, all should hopefully be ok.

I cannot promise this but I have been driving for centuries and instructing for 14 years.
