DSG holding gears

Featured Replies

Hello all. New to the site and I’ve done a big hello in the relevant places.

I’ve got a question relating to the dsg. I feel like it holds gears a bit longer than I normally have experienced with my other torque converter DS5. Is this a normal dsg thing or maybe a slight fault. I’m normally driving in eco mode 2018 superb estate.

Did you pull inadvertently on the lever so that the gearbox is in S mode, though DCC in Eco mode ?

May be worth to check. ;)

Gears will appear in S1, S2, S3... on the center display or VC, if this is true.

@Beanhead Welcome.   As above^^^.

Which engine does your car have?

It’s the 150 engine. No it’s in e1,2,3 on the display. Just won’t change gear till it’s a lot higher in the Rev range than I’d expect.

Take it out of Eco then.   use just in D and then compare that with S and it holding gear into a higher RPM.

@BeanheadSo a 1.5TSI ACT 150ps,

& not a 2.0  TDI 150ps ?

Yep tried that. Always a pause at about 2400rpm where it just holds the gear before changing.

Do you mean pausing and not gaining revs before but changes or it keep revving higher and changes near the red line?

Yeah that’s it marky, the first bit. I’ve not had a dsg before so didn’t know if that was normal or not.

@Beanhead

Best find out from a Skoda Main Dealership or Skoda UK if your car has had the Service Campaign carried out, or even the 2nd one for 1.5TSI's.

Software update.

Threads in the Karoq & Octavia Mk3 sections covering this, and it was not manual cars it included Superbs.

Some are not just part of the Skoda Recall Actions / Service Campaign,

Not everything that can be outstanding will appear here.

The DVLA RECALL, which is relevant to some, where Keepers should have been contacted.

Cheers for that Roottoot. I’ll get that checked out. It is on really light throttle so maybe the torque thing could be it. It’s the 2.0tdi 150ps.

My posts are Not applicable then. Which is why I always ask what vehicle and engine so gearbox anyone is posting about.    2.0 TDI 150 ps with SCR and DSG really are the sweet spot of VW engined IMO.    My posts were because I thought it was a 2018 1.5 TSI you had.

If it's under light throttle it could just be the way it's coded.  Does it do it under heavier acceleration?

Does it do it all the time? It will hold a lower gear to get the revs up during a DPF regen.

I also notice high revs when accelerating, even gently, uphill. I don't see more than 1750rpm driving normally on the flat in E mode.

I think I’ve figured it out. The throttle travel is about 3 inches longer than my DS5. So a tiny movement on that is hardly anything on the Superb, I was just too light on it. I’ve been pushing a bit further and the delay isn’t there any more. Just need to recalibrate my brain!

If that's the case then a pedal box will suit you well. If you aren't familiar then search in here or Google and you'll find plenty good stuff.

Morning all,

Another question on the gearbox. I’m all set up with an individual setting for the car now with the gearbox in eco. When I start the car it’s automatically in my individual setting however on the instrument cluster the gears show as D not E. They only go to E if I reselect individual. This is also true if I’m in Eco. The dash will show D until Eco is re selected. I did wonder if it switched to E itself after the car warmed up but I tried that yesterday and it didn’t.

any ideas 🤷🏼‍♂️

Apparently it’s a fault with most skoda cars. Did a google search and after much digging in a kodiak forum the consensus was it’s just an annoying niggle that you have to reset the drive mode.

'Faults' are covered by warranties.  It might be a feature some do not like but that does not then become a fault.

It’s just odd how the car remembers you’re in eco or individual for everything bar the gearbox.

its an emissions related thing - hence why the gearbox will always revert to "Normal" when u start the car.
