Hello.

First time posting here. I was wondering if anyone has replaced the sway bar one the Mk1 Octavia (preferably Vrs)? 
 

Can you just remove the brackets holding it in place or do you have to lower the front end/ mess with the engine placement? Tried searching but couldn’t find an answer.

Pass. This being primarily a UK forum you might get on better in UK English, with "anti-roll bar" though.

Second time posting here. I was wondering if anyone has replaced the anti roll bar (US: sway bar) on the Mk1 Octavia (preferably Vrs)?
 

Do you only need remove the brackets holding it in place and wiggle it out or do you have to lower the front end/ mess with the engine placement? Tried searching but couldn’t find an answer.

Haynes suggests you MIGHT have to loosen subframe mounting bolts  to access the clamp bolts. It also mentions to mark the position of the subframe and anti roll bar(which way round and bush position). I never had to do it on my old mkI so I don't have any practical experience of the job.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll have to take a closer look under the car when I can get it lifted and decide how to proceed.

Welcome to our very select circle😊

i have been looking at the area (front)  many times so I suspect the front subframe will need to be dropped to create a gap

 at least the diameter of the new ARB, disconnect the ARB link arms /  the steering track rod ends.  Im sure someone on here who has done it will advise you soon.

 

If its just to replace the ARB bushes all you have to do is put the front on jacks, remove the front road wheels, remove the bolts holding the

bush straps and lever the bushes out, they are split so can open out over the ARB for removal. I did this and replaced mine with Super-Pro bushes.

Adding a ARB to the rear is easy, just reverse onto ramps and install.

In answer to your question, yes the back of the frame has to drop, but it is just as easy to drop it completely enough on a jack with the body on stands. From memory, the steering U/J connection also has to come off to allow the drop.

Seems like I do need to drop the frame after all. I’ll see what I can accomplish the weekend hopefully :)

 

Is it really that straight forward to install a rear ARB? I was planing on buying the Whiteline (seems like a favorite around here). Is this the correct one:

Yes,

the one you indicated will fit, the vrs shares a lot of golf mk4 parts and add on goodies from 3rd parties.

The rear one is fairly easy to fit. When I got my vrs I bought and fitted a Whiteline 22mm on my own. They are quite heavy and a awkward shape to

position. I got 2 Ty-wraps and propped the ARB against the cars rear suspension beam, secured it with the ty-wraps (not sure what you call them, see pic below),

far apart on the rear beam.

 

Then using supplied brackets secured it to the suspension beam, centralised its position, pivoted it upwards secured it using supplied bolts and link arms to the

car suspension. You will get a fitting sheet when you get a new one. The improvement to body roll is like night and day.

 

I recently swapped my Whiteline one out for a Newspeed one this year.

In this case they mostly say "a relevant picture has already been posted" I think.
