Park Assist

Featured Replies

Was watching a few reviews of the Octavia and noticed a few mentioned the Park Assist button saying it allows the car to steer into a parking space automatically. Is this standard fit do all Octavias have this? I have the button but thought it was just to display the parking sensors 🤔

It's not standard, the button is just being reused for other parking assist systems.

Looks to be that way. On the older MK3 it seem you needed parking sensors around the wheel arch, mine only has front and back so that answers that then!

For Park Assist to work it needs to be able to detect the vehicles alongside, hence the need for 4 extra sensors - 2 on each side by the wheel arches.

I only rarely used Park Assist on my Mk3, but it did frighten my ex-SWMBO when I took my hands off the wheel and the wheel started whizzing round which made it worthwhile!

Bit excited at first, the review was from a base spec Octavia, thought it maybe standard but I guess the reviewer was just mentioning it! I'd be very worried about alloys and curbs! I tend to leave a big gap I wouldn't trust it 😁

Unfortunately Park Assist is not available on the Mark 4 configurator, used it all the time on my Mark 3. Each version of the Octavia has lost something, eg. puddle lights, door warning lights (now reflectors), Alcantara, light carpets with light upholstery, now dark seat bottoms with light seats etc. Lot of penny pinching to give you dodgy technology. SEL rear lights on outers only yet most youtube videos of European "Style" equivalents have full width rear lights. Think Skoda UK decide trim levels etc.

You can still get every single thing you mentioned here, what changed were specs and pricing.

Actually they don't... not the standard Style. To get the full width rear lights there's an option called "Top LED rear lights" that costs about 160 Euro and comes also with dynamic turning signals. Without that option, Style is delivered with non-LED rear lights and only on the outers as you mentioned.

Depends on the market. In Lithuania style does get full rear lights.

UK online brochure and configurator do not list options for park assist nor Alcantara upholstery. Strangely the new Fabia has park assist as an option. Point I am making is that things like puddle lights and door warning lights were standard on SEL but are now gone.

UK online brochure could be out of date as configurator price is £2-£3 more than brochure price.

Thanks for input guys.

ps Have now experienced DSG hesitancy in changes along with all the other foibles in the infotainment system.

Reversing parallel park assist? It's quicker to do it yourself.

My Octavia Combi order in April 2021 was order with the park assist option, but it has arrived without. They have suppress the option this autumn in the catalog but also on non produced car  for customer who have taken the option. This option has only disappear for Octavia, still existing on Supeb, Fabia , Karoq, Kodiaq....

Yeah well that's more of the supply issues. It wasn't a downgrade like the other member seemed to imply. It sucks, but it's affecting every manufacturer.

You're the one who's in control of the speed, so if it's slower then it's down to you, not park assist.

I agree that for parking at 90 degrees, you have to be accurate on how far away fom the parking bays for the system to be accurate, but for parallel parking? Overall I find reverse parallel parking quicker simply because it's worked 100% everytime I've used in over the past 4.5 years. Can't say the same for when I park the car myself because sometime I misjudge, especially in a tight space or when there are other things to distracting your concentration.
