Well, fairly obviously it’s a warning that the engine is running, so the main question is what else was happening when the warning came up?   I haven’t seen such a warning myself, so it may be only on newer cars, but what were you doing when the warning came?  Tell us about whether you were driving or stationary, gear and brake positions, door opening, etc.

If the start-stop stops the engine, and you open the drivers door, mine does something like that.  You have to turn the car off first :)

My current cars are a different marque. On both of them, when s/s has stopped the engine and you open a door, instead of a warning like this the engine immediadly restarts.

It seems like fairly normal behaviour then; a Jeep I travel in regularly has a warning "key has left vehicle" when the driver gets out with the engine running and the key in his pocket!

My cars both do that as well. One is opening the door when the engine has auto-stopped. The other actually requires you to get out of the car and take your key with you. .
