the truth about electric cars

Featured Replies

@Graham ButcherIt will be because of the Fines / Financial penalties coming their way as shown in a previously posted document that might have been yourself that posted.

Like the penalties that Car Manufacturers receive if they miss the Average Fleet Co2 emissions in the EU and in the UK.

The manufacturers cheat by partnering with EV only manufacturers or mostly electrified vehicle producers.

No idea if the Energy Companies have a similar cheat available to them over the Smart Meters.

  • So surely you should be welcoming Graham's interrogation of the data and news items?   There are clearly many false statements being made on both sides of the fence...   so a balanced discus

You're right, I did post that, but either way, you can be sure that ultimately, it will not be to our advantage, there is a reason for the removal of cash and an interconnected world for everything.

@Rooted, I'm not actually that your second video is factually correct about the Scots are paying more for their electric, it is more likely to be due to the fact that it is actually far colder and so more energy is being used to provide heating?

Otherwise, I would say that the presenter is right.

Nice try but I think it is more likely to save them paying for gas then encouraging EV owners to use more green power, especially if they have to buy that renewable energy. Remember, we have had off peak tarrifs years before there was renewable sources. If they can get more power used over night and other less demanding times, they make more profit. If the demand is 20MW and there generators kick out 50MW then they are missing out on 30MW of sales. Follow the money, it usually pays off.

Nice try on what, it's EXACTLY what you wrote, just added common sense and context because you are not making any.

If demand is 20 MW and renwable is kicking out 50 MW, you will definitely be at 0p/kWh or even negative pricing to get people to soak up that excess. This is where smart meter helps because it allows energy price people pay to follow the wholesale price. Indeed they are missing out on sales, so they sell it cheaply and those who can, benefits. Follow the money, and demand & supply 101, they (energy suppliers) do it, it would be foolish not to do the same.

We did have off-peak tariff before renwables, but that was to enable people to live with storage heating. The price is due to demand peak and troughs, just like rush hour, it is easier to get energy to people when there's less demand on the grid. This has never changed. The difference is rise of renewables that doesn't follow demand. As a result, wholesale price now varies greatly now compared to before, no longer due to simple demand peak and troughs.

This is grid power mix over last 7 days:

And yesterday's Agile tariff at grid's lowest demand was 3.3p/kWh. https://agileprices.co.uk/

Over 50% of London black cab fleet is now ZEC (zero emission capable).

The LEVC black cabs are great to ride in and very well designed. Its hybrid powertrain is excellent because it is basically an 80 miles EV with an range extender ICE, just the way PHEV's should be.

^^^ That is a p1ss take with the Minimum 20 miles.

As in Edinburgh.

Hardly hushed up when the recall is on the UK Media / News.

What is not that well known is how many are running cars using Autopilot in the UK as a Self Driving System.

It has been sold in the UK since 2016 just not to be activated until approved by the regulators as i understood it.

Someone will correct me if this is not correct.

Was it in the UK media? The link I posted was from the States. I thought that autopilot was not yet approved anywhere.

World Wide Web.

I heard it on the news and the radio in the UK.

Not approved in the UK. But that does not stop people having it and using it.

COP28.

https://www.unep.org/news-and-stories/statements/unep-executive-director-statement-closing-cop28

COP28 has delivered, for the first time at climate talks, a clear call on countries to transition away from fossil fuels. The deal is not perfect, but one thing is clear: the world is no longer denying our harmful addiction to fossil fuels. Now we move beyond bargaining to action. As the Secretary-General has said, the phase-out of fossil fuels is inevitable.

“This means real action on a rapid transition away from fossil fuels, especially for the G20, and real action on the many other positives agreed at COP28: the framework on the Global Goal on Adaptation, operationalizing the Loss and Damage Fund, and new commitments on sustainable cooling, methane reduction, tripling renewable energy targets and nature breakthroughs.

“The reality, as outlined in UNEP’s Emissions Gap report released ahead of the COP, is that we are not on track to deliver a resilient, low-carbon and just world. This reality has not changed yet. Now the hard work of decarbonization must begin.

“To have any hope of doing this in line with what the science demands of us, we must unleash far greater finance to support countries in a just, equitable and clean transition, which is especially important for developing nations that must leapfrog to low-carbon development. Financing and means of implementation are therefore critical, as every developing country must have the capacity to urgently end energy poverty, realise its sustainable development potential and deliver on the SDGs.   “We have the solutions; we know what needs to be done. And action can no longer wait.”

I watched 5 minutes of the guy allowing his Tesla to try and drive, it scared the K-rap out of me that there are people out there filming themselves letting the car drive and all their attention is on the screen trying to see if it has picked up a road sign or jogger whilst the car would drive straight over a roundabout without their intervention assuming they by chance happened to be looking at the road.

And the government allows cars equipped with such to be sold and driven on the road 😒

Well, the government also allows idiots who film their self driving vehicles driving licences so there is that 🤷

If four Teslas arrived at a mini roundabout at the same time, what would they do?

Act better than 4 average human drivers I expect.

WTF is it with Volkswagen Group and teasing and predicting the economy and the technology a year or 3 off.

If they can build and sell them then best get on with it and sort the cars they have already sold with fundamental design, manufacturing and material / hardware / software faults.

Getting them built in China is likely the only way they will sort out the stuff they can not.

I just stumbled across this rather interesting video about electric buses, both of the trolley and battery varieties around the globe, and it even features some made by our namesake, Škoda. Makes a very interesting watch, I thought.

The electric busses seem to be doing rather well on routes between cities in Scotland and in the cities.

Stagecoach West are expanding their All-Electric Bus routes in Ayrshire.

& there is more.

The truth about electric cars, or just a spin on them maybe,

and enough Anti- VW stories about while VW Group spend spend spend on advertising.

Wow, the state of that Tesla was shocking, pun intended.

I watched a video about this a week or so ago, along with ones with Ford saying the same thing and a some other mainstream companies, but as I was not 100% sure if they for real or not, I was reluctant to post until it was confirmed further.

A couple interesting articles I came across, not sure if the second one is an EV or not, but given the recent discussions reference insurance companies and storm damaged cars (EV) I thought it would be of interest.

UK firm to convert 30 vintage Rolls-Royces into electric cars | This is Money

Our car was flooded in Storm Babet: A month later, Sheila's Wheels STILL hasn't helped us: CRANE ON THE CASE | This is Money

^^^

Did the company really beat Rolls Royce to building EV,s or others that have already build a Rolls Royce EV?

Rolls Royce must be going to keep producing ICE vehicles between 2035 & 2040 for export to countries without a ban on Registering new ICE vehicles which there will be plenty of around the world, before they produce only EV,s by 2040.

They seem very good at predicting into the future or just had to say something so they said what the article reports they say.

So much water that it De-badged the car!

?

What model of car is it that the Insurance Company were failing to have uplifted and a repairer deal with?

The settlement figure of £19,000 has since been paid out on it.
