Battery sizes skoda fabia

Featured Replies

Hello I'm looking to see what size battery's will fit the skoda fabia 1.4 tdi 2006 70bhp. My battery on the way out in this cold weather.

There any sizes or guides somewhere.

My peugeot 306 I put a bigger battery on it over size 64ah ea640 and it works much better.

Thanks

You are going to be limited by the battery tray size if you are looking for a physically 'bigger' battery, although you can get more powerful units with the same footprint.
I guess you want a stronger cranking amps rather than AH capacity?

I think the original battery on those is an 027 reference so 243mm (L) x 175mm (W) x 190mm (H) in size, the CCA rating changes alot by manufacturer.
Check the stick on your current battery, see what rating you have and then look at alternatives.

Below is an example of 027 products sorted by CCA, you can quite easily gain 100amps-160amps by changing your brand/spec option.

Brand Ah CCA
Lion 60 480
Exide 62 540
Varta 60 540
Bosch S4 60 540
Drivetec 62 540
Yuasa YBX3 62 550
Bosch S5 63 610
Exide Premium 64 640
Yuasa YBX5 65 640

Buy on size not number, on my Mk2 1.4 TDI Greenline I have what is classed as an 096 which is 175 x 190 x 278 - 35mm longer that the 027 that you may find suggested on various sites. A quick check with a tape measure on the plastic cage, which is the limiting factor will confirm. My 56 plate Mk1 1.4 TDI 70 came with 027 but sure I fitted a 096 - years ago so again use a tape measure. My 06 plate Mk1 1.9 TDI 100 came with an 096. Size may therefore be just down to cranking requirements with the Mk1 1.4 TDI to Mk2 1.4 TDI change just being down to fitted equipment.

Looking at the parts drawing for the battery box it appears there are the following battery sizes fitted at factory for the MkI Fabia:-

36AH

44AH

60AH

70 & 72AH

fuse socket - Fabia(FAB) [EUROPA 2002 year] (7zap.com)

You could also go for EFB or AGM versions which hold more Ah for the same case size..but will cost more...

I like the look of this battery if it will fit.

Capacity (C20) 72 Ah
CCA (EN) 720 A
Length 278 mm
Width 175 mm
Height 175 mm

Thats a 096 case size...you will need a new "felt" internal sleeve/cover...& I don't know which bits of the plastic outer, as you might have the bigger ones...you have to double check the part numbers from that drawing I linked to & measure yourself

Other than that if you want the same smaller case size as your existing battery go EFB or AGM type for more AH but more £££

This again is a case of size being based on dimensions and not number as the quoted height is 175 and not 190 as quoted in 2nd post.  The batteries clamp by a moulding on the base so it can be secured, but will the connectors affixed to the plastic battery case mount. The link below is for an "096" but as you will see that one has a quoted height of 190mm. Lead/acid will be suitable, even an 027 as fitted if the existing battery has lasted its guarantee period and is just suffering old age and not had issues/struggled over it normal life.

Cheaper option

Dimensions are overall.  If you're keeping the car it doesn't pay to go cheap on a car battery in my opinion and experience.  Tayna offer a range of 096 batteries and have (their?) Enduroline 096 as Star Buy.  I bought an Enduroline for my car (not a Fabia) 5-6 years ago and it's been fine, never touched it.

Extra storage capacity and CCA (Cold Cranking Power) is useful to have, subject to the battery being able to retain as much of it for as long as possible.  See attached PDF if you want intro info.

I fixed the wires near the gearbox common fault and it fixed the windows and charging properly 12 months ago now.

The battery on the way out so I'm going for this one now https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/exide/ea640/

There a further 5% discount using the code Salvage5 before the offer runs out. I used that to get my discount on a good price battery I'm collecting today.

That looks like it will outlast the car.  Personally even though it's new I'd fully charge it with an appropriate battery charger (and maintainer) before fitting it to the car, hopefully that wouldn't take long.

Read and follow the instructions in the 'Owner's Manual' for replacing the battery, check for resets that might be required, even if listed not all seem to be needed.

That's because you're raving mad, a brand new battery doesn't need charging because it's never been discharged, just fit it and forget about it.

Not only a self-confessed engineering expert, with all the arrogance of a surgeon but without the additional extensive education and training and possibly looks, now an expert in metal health, and wholesale and resale of car batteries, is there no end to your talents (except diplomacy obviously).

I'm not the one fitting the battery but I thank you for taking your valuable time to me give your opinion despite not fully reading what I'd put, I value your advice, to different levels at different times.  If only your talent of giving ultra fast solutions, none wrong by your own admission either, could have be turned towards world hunger, poverty and cancer we'd be rid of them by now.

It's not just you, but all of us, that are blessed by your presence.

Next time I personally want to do anything I will think what would sepulchrave tell me to do and better still if possible run it by you beforehand.

The battery can indeed be partly discharged, even when 'brand new' - depending on the ambient temperature while in storage, a lead-acid battery CAN self-discharge by up to 1% per day. Not difficult to see that a new battery could easily be only 50% (or less) charged when fitted.

That used to be the case, these days the plates are coated with Calcium to prevent self-discharge and extend shelf lives almost indefinitely, a brand new battery is fully charged. Your information is obsolete.

How could you even think of telling Battery Man to forget about battery charging?

You sound like a man whose battery charger is inappropriate and who needs to read his owners manual 🤣

Plate on last battery?

Mine is a 2004/70 and my first battery lasted almost 10 years. Second battery was an 096, which had problems with liner. That lasted almost as long. So I'd suggest 096. And tip- GSF( NO connection) had good prices/guarantee when I last looked.

What a amazing difference in starting the car now in cold and warm weather. The battery was worth it in the end plenty of power.
