Replacement (error-free) interior lamps

Featured Replies

As per title .. I'm looking to swap out my rather pale interior lamps, for some cool white LED error free lamps ...

Any recommendations would be most welcome, as there are many choices out there.  Some previous LED lamps I bought maybe 5 years ago flicker like crazy, and don't seem to last very long 😞

Cheers

I changed mine a long time ago to Osram LED lights, the interior lights are not on the bulb monitoring system.
Think I used a Phillips LED bulb in the boot. They are all much better.

Edit: I first used Halfords LED lights but for some reason they kept blowing a fuse so I took them back.

I've not had a problem putting LED bulbs in either of my Yetis or my Octavia vRS.

One of the first things I did after purchasing my L&K was to replace the interior bulbs with LED lamps, giving a much brighter, cooler light. I thought they were Osram or Philips but I checked just now (original packaging with spares in boot recess) and they’re just generic Chinese jobbies.

One thing I’ve noted since doing the replacement is that after several minutes of the interior light being on, the light level drops significantly and pulses very quickly. I think this is the point at which the original filament lamps would automatically dim to a much lower level before going out altogether, and it seems that the LED lamps can’t dim properly and instead exhibit this weird pulsing behaviour, as though a rheostat is being used instead of a dimmer. Don’t know if that’s an attribute of the cheap LED lights I’m using or if it’s something that’s common to all LED bulbs, but it’s something you should be aware of.

I get very smooth dimming with my Osram and Phillips LED bulbs.

That’s good to know, thank you. Right now I have the roof liner out for an ongoing sunroof leak / ham radio install, so I’ll get some decent LED bulbs in there before putting it all back together. Cheers @Urrell!

I replaced all my interior bulbs with cheapie LEDS from AliExpress and they work fine - including dimming correctly when they go off.

a rheostat

That's a word I haven't heard in years, a bit like people always called the capacitor on points a condenser. Is there a difference between a rheostat and a potentiometer or variable resistor ?     Anyway dimming is done by Pulse Width Modulation, PWM, now as it is more efficient and does not waste energy in heat on a resistance. So it makes sense that any replacement led lamps have to be as they mark them dimmable.

Basically the same only two terminals vs three and in the "old days" they were used for higher current applications ... but yeah, long time since I've seen that term used.
