Screen washer fluid tank leak

Featured Replies

Hiya all

I need a bit of advice before i take my brand new kamiq back to the dealers again.

It's my washer fluid. I do about 200 miles a week and I'm having to fill up pretty much every week at the minute. I'm in Norfolk so we have had a lot of rain the last month or so and I haven't noticed any puddles on floor due to rain. My last rapid which did the same route would need filling at the service only, in fact I think I filled it up myself once in the three years i owned it.

I was wondering a couple of thing. Other kamiq owners how oftern do you have to refill the screen washer fluid?

Does the kamiq have a washer fluid tank that hold next to nothing?

And I'm guess the reservoir is behind the left side wheel behind the black plastic? I'm tempted to pull that off and have a look before I take it to dealer again.

On another note. The back left side windows makes horrid squeak when it's going up or down. Anybody have this issue? The cars brand new 7k on the clock so I'm a bit concerned as you would imagine.

Wanted a few opinion before I contact the dealer again.

And for you who are interested the visit back was because there was a cigarette burn on the floor. I love my local branch so I'm not naming them but a fag burn on a brand new car was very annoying. They gave me the enyaq for two days while they repaired it so I was actually ok with. I did notice one of the engineer's smoking as I left so clearly they need a bit a telling off

Anyway sorry ramble. What do you Skoda brothers and sisters think?

Cheers

?

Do you use the Washer Fluid much then in a week

& how much do you put in when you do fill it?   You must know if it holds next to nothing if you fill it.

Your old one would have been filled at each service as well as you filling it.

You must have not used it much back then on maybe not had much of a scoosh going on.

If you want stuff checked under warranty somethings are only covered for 6 months / 6,500 miles so putting off raising with a Approved Repairer / Dealership is not a good idea.

I fill it to the brim. I probably do a screen wash each way of my journey. I work nights so do 4 12 hours shifts. So that's a maximum of 15 less than 5 second squirts per week. Which really is nothing right.

And I'm still under a complete warranty with my branch. Thats kinda why I wanted some of briskoda opinions first. If not I can take it to an independent. I'm still within my rights to dump the car on the forecourt and leave it there if I have any issues.

I'm already going to contact my local Skoda when they open up again. My 4 night's off for Christmas (which is when they open again) is testing time so I know for sure if i have an issue. The windows squeak is more than enough to take it back to them.

Thanks your input I really appreciate it. But I'm guessing you are going to say the fluid is going down to quickly. Tomorrow I will wrap the reservoir in paper towel and see what happens as I've only had time to fill it up today. It may well just be a sensors giving a false readimg which is why I really want to see washer fluid tank for myself.

I recently had to refill the reservoir for the first time at around 7000 miles. I did it the day the light came on and it took about 1.75 litres.

If you can get someone to run the front washers while you look under the car, that's how I diagnosed an issue back in 2000 on a MK1 Fabia. Also try it with the rear and look for any drips under the car. Admittedly the first hint I had was no fluid coming out of the washers.

Just checked and I put just over half a litre in today and that filled it up. But the last couple if weeks I've been putting in about 1.5l. so I guess it could be the sensor but that contradictory if last week I put in 1.5l same with the first week of December. That was pretty much the full bottle maybe 1.2 liters.

@NeilRW thanks for the advice. Will give it a go tomorrow. Fingers crossed it dry tomorrow.

Does it by any chance have headlight washers for Xenon lamps?

They use gallons of washer fluid every time you wash the screen and maybe also at programmed intervals.

The only car I had them on was a Sierra Ghia, no idea why they bothered but I disconnected them pretty sharpish as I was having to fill the massive reservoir too often.

@chicken93

Just remember that the Full Warranty has T&C's and exclusions.  The Warranty is not with the Branch they are Approved Repairers, not the Manufacturers Warranty provider / underwriter.

If there is a fault with the back window it should be covered,  but remember there is stuff that is not covered.

I really appreciate your help with that @roottoot that very handy. I will contact the dealer as soon as they open again. I've only had the car for just under two months now. I will do a couple of test tomorrow and update this post. Then call my dealer when they open again. Either way I need to get the window sorted. It sounds like it's scraping when it goes down and comes back up again. Funny how you only notice these thing after a little while of ownership. Wednesday was the first time I put the window down as I was cleaning the car. Either way I shall keep you all upto date.

Many thanks

Hey,

The Full LED are mandated to come with washers otherwise it is illegal.

You either have them and didn't notice or you have LED only on the low beam.

Not anymore. Standard Kamiqs and also our 71 plate Yaris have full LED lights, no washers and also manual range adjustment.

Even Monte Carlo models with Adaptive Lights have no standard washers.

I see... more cost cutting? Manual adjustment? That's.... odd.

I think needing automatic height adjustment is dependent on bulb wattage

Yeah mine has manual adjusting headlight and definitely no head light washer. Just wait for my branch to get back to me see what they can do. Will keep you posted

  • 2 weeks later...

Yes the upgraded front LED option (standard on the M/C's) include the front fog / drivers lights with front directional indicators. The LED power is almost double the standard LED headlights and that is why they need the self leveling.

The standard LED units that most people have are a lower brightness / power level and such they can have manual adjustment.
