TYRE WARNING LIGHT

Featured Replies

Is it possible to adjust the sensitivity?

In the 6 months I've owned my Mk 2 Fab the light has come on about 10 times. Checking the tyres I find that one or other of the tyres has gone down 1 or 2 psi to 30 or 31.

It's easy to reset by pressing the button next to the handbrake, but still annoying.

Thanks very much.

I do not think so.    Amazing that only a 1 or 2 psi drop when checked cold has the warning coming on.

Seems like it is doing the job well that it is there to do.

Being sensitive is better than a warning too late allowing you to drive about with tyres maybe getting too hot or just warning when there is obviously a puncture.

Best sort out the tyre or tyre that loses pressure between setting the pressures and resetting the TPMS.

I don't think the system is very sensitive at all about tyre pressure.  For reset I think it might be that you might need to drive the car, or drive further, after pushing the button to reset for it to get the message, switching the ignition off after reset might confuse it.  If the light is on it's free and easy to try pushing reset this at the start of a journey plus you don't get your hands dirty or cold if the cabin is warm.

Or IF the system is run off the ABS sensors it might be an intermittent fault with one of those and IF the sensor or cog it gets its message from are exposed it might just be muck or rust on or between them, this means checking in the cold and probably dirty hands.

Another way to avoid the cold and dirty hands is to ensure the car battery is not at low charge so that any computer can start to  play up, even if the car starts and lights seem to be bright enough.

I also favour the car battery reset as again it's quick, free and easy to do and if it doesn't work you've lost nothing  (see vid below) - first check your Owner's Manual for anything that might need resetting or resynchronising, the tyre warning light will come on for a while after reconnecting the battery so don't worry about that.

The only other thing I've seen is that stupid fuse links on top of the battery can fatigue crack from car use vibrations so you could have a look at that for cracks, or crud at connections.

Good luck.

Is this happening recently or has it been like this before, if ok before it could be the batteries need changing in the tyres, they mostly last around 7 years then start to fail, you should reset tyre pressures when cold as if you are setting after driving they WILL give you false readings unless you use nitrogen instead of air in the  tyres

The OEM Fabia Mk2 TPMS if that is what the car has has no valve sensors so no batteries in the tyres.

@Murdockman

Does your Mk3 Fabia have Sensor Valves fitted and show individual tyre pressures on your dash or which tyre has lost pressure?

Might be an ABS sensor issue. I think all Skoda's probably have tyre monitoring based on wheel rotation speed difference using the ABS sensors. If one is not behaving or intermittent dropping pulses  it could fool the system into thinking that tyre is deflating.

This is from my wife's2015 Mk3 Driver's Handbook. -

Simply Clever is if a tyre or another tyre is losing pressure between setting the TPMS and a warning is check if the tyre bead is leaking maybe because of corrosion on the wheel or a valve before looking for more reasons.

If the tyre pressure check is accurate and the odd tyre is only dropping 1 or 2 psi as in the OP maybe the issue is not just that reduction in pressure so the tyre circumference.

Are you running different makes of tyres? even if they are the same size different makes might have slightly different diametres.
