Travel Assist not available

Featured Replies

Just recently my car has been 'bing bonging' loads telling me Travel Assist is not available. Like it will bing bong 7 or 8 times on a short journey. Something come loose? Anything I can check before I go to a dealership?

Usually this means that the camera and/or radar are blocked with dust,  snow, ice. I get similar issues sometimes and even if I clean the debris I still have to restart the engine to stop the beeping after I clean them. On my older Octavia I had the same issue with the radar (no camera), but it would beep just once and if I clean it then in 5 minutes it will be functional again (no need to restart the engine).

If cleaning the windscreen camera doesn't help, and especially if you get other warnings that Lane Assist and Dynamic Roadsigns aren't available (if fitted to your car) then it could mean the controller in the steering wheel needs to be replaced under warranty.

Lane Assist and Travel Assist have capacitive sensors in the steering wheel to detect whether or not your hands are on the steering wheel, and the electronic controller is in the steering wheel too. Several of us in the UK have had faults like this, and dealers are used to replacing the steering wheel to cure it. I had the fault every few months, but only got round to telling my dealer at the annual service, but he ordered up a new steering wheel for me straight away. Some owners think it is also linked to having a heated steering wheel, and whether or not you're keeping your hands warm :)

Thanks all, I noticed this started after a wash at the weekend so I thought the car was clean. I ran the windscreen washer for a bit and the wipers and so far it seems cured.

So in the end it didn't cure it, seems to be speed hump or movement activated, I have the car booked in at the stealers.

I've just noticed on the Job Sheet there is a diagnostic fee of £131, surely that can't be right for warranty stuff?

You wouldn't think a fee should be charged for warranty stuff. However each country is different and I've been out of the trade directly for 19 years.

When I was having "post Fix" EGR problems on my Yeti I was quoted a diagnostic fee. When the problem was diagnosed and accepted as being covered by the trust building measure guarantee they did not charge me.

I think they quoted the fee just in case the problem was NOT covered by the warranty.

Fairly standard, if the job is proven to be a warranty issue then you don't get charged

For a common design fault in a 2021 car, there should be no question of a diagnostic fee being charged to the owner! Hopefully it is just the dealer loading the warranty costs he wants to recover from Skoda UK :)

So after the dealer visit, it's a new steering wheel and they did the SOS software fix. All in all happy so far.
