Under 1/3 Tank Fuel - misfiring woes VRS MK2

@thomasaspinWhen a Twincharger is running in moist air they run at about there best as many of us know.

When they are running an original clean filter they run great.   Or even a performance intake and clean filter.

When they get a damp filter or actually wet and it is then left sitting in freezing weather they can run totally sh!tw or not even run.

The Airfilter can freeze in the low temperature,

Some of us that have used Water Trap Inline fuel filters on our road vehicles / offroaders know how much water can come from the fuel tank.

Some will use K&N filters in conditions where there will be H20 kicking about as there is the perfect use for them, exposed, just as we might use a snorkel.

Some people actually learn as the years go on, it is a location location location thing.

On the fuel subject.  I once got crap Tesco Momentum 99 and that was at a Tesco outside Blackpool on the way to Santa Pod and running Stage 2.

I was out for a blast later that night near Preston with another member and the car was running crap i thought it was just the very hot weather.

Then the next morning after filling on the motorway in the scorchio weather.

I had to switch the map and use 102 ron petrol i had in cans and add that a couple of times as the tank emptied.

@thomasaspin  Nobody said including me that the fuel quality was to blame just look at it and consider it.

The obvious and common stuff that goes wrong was there for the OP to check and they posted about the 1/3 full tank.

You are so clued up now, what a change from 2014 when you were clueless and asking advice & happy to get any.

Good to see you sharing your knowledge now and being so humble.

Bit premature with the gloating, it's not been confirmed that the error code is the fault, and related, it's like how I sometimes am with reality.

And you can have more than one problem related or not to the issue in hand and/or as yet undiscovered or unrecognised issues.  The German car manufacturers often seem to go out of their way to make things over-complicated to show how clever they think they are which often leads to complex issues and solutions in and out of Warranty and these engines are more complex than most.

Let's hope cleaning the coil or connector sorts the issue. 😁

The tuning garage found damaged wiring & broken plug part that connects to the coilpack so it's sorted now, it was strange how I noticed the issue a lot more with less fuel in  so probably the subject heading is misleading now. All good reading but the key to solving is finding a good garage / mechanic. As well as all  the other potential causes listed by members on here I am not as hands on as most, so thanks 🙂

Can I just say that I’m really happy it didn’t cause any major problems mate, would also like to say that the time wasters who commented on this (roottoot) can apologise to the OP for your copy and pasting rubbish and time wasting and actually probably taking him further away from sorting the problem out

@Kobayashi Good that it sorted.

Did anything posted here lead you to doing anything other than read it, like did you actually do anything other than get others check for faults.

@thomasaspinback in the day when you needed help you were happy to get it, did making you aware of stuff take you further away from sorting the issues?

Unbelievable really when i think of those that never bothered even to thank people for trying to help them.

All of the possible causes need to be eliminated one by one in order, the fact the 1st garage didn't the check the coilpacks was annoying all he did was change the spark plugs. When I had the original oil issue 2012-2016 (when there wasn't a solution until the oil jet fixes) I was copying all of 'Offski's' posts and others and studying the info so it was  invaluable when I typed it all up for the 5 oil fixes@Skoda. If it wasn't for all the threads / posts I would have gave up a long time ago. 🙂

@Kobayashi great news it's sorted.

I tried with Torque Pro and ODB2 and showed no errors at all but I know that doesn't look 'deep enough'.

Good on you for realising this limitation.

Good on them for finding the issue, perhaps they used a deeper scan tool to narrow down the area that needed attention but the old fashion use of human senses and biological computer and dealing with the very unsexy and basic hands and eyes on diagnostics, is not to be demised.  The difference between the first and second garage isn't just expertise, another lesson in life or perhaps a reminder of past experience(s) with garages and mechanics.

With the issue being intermittent, the 1st garage, the diagnostic equipment available to you I think it was possibly OK to indulge in the thread drifts and tangents (sounds like triangular Pringles), even if you did get told off for doing so, and you kept your good humour,  you survived and are now a little older and wiser.  🙂

Some of us are just older.  😄
