What does the error say? If it specifically states cornering lights, it’ll either be the fixed lights at the bottom of the bumper or the dynamic cornering system.

When the lights dance, do they just go up and down? No other direction?

Yes it says cornering lights (afs)but the lights go sideways and up and down on startup as if nothing wrong

Sounds like the motors that move the lights are OK, which suggests the problem is further back in the system (such as not getting steering data over the CAN bus).

I think a fault scan is needed to get the details of the fault code that will have been stored.

If you replace the headlight, it may come with a new control module on the rear that will need a dataset uploading to it.

Even if you keep the old headlight control module, you'll still probably need to clear the old fault codes and do 'basic settings' to so the system can relearn a few things :)

The long and short of swapping most parts on our cars nowadays is you need a laptop.

As said above there by Langer's, find yourself a local VAG specialist and have them do the necessary work. Be a hell of a lot cheaper than a trip to the stealership.
