DAB has not worked properly since I brought the car from new 2018

Featured Replies

Hello

Brought the car VRS 2018 May, I have had nothing but problem with the DAB loosing signal. Been into Skoda main dealer a number of times to get the issue sorted out but to no avail.

No parts have been replaced to sort the issues out on the DAB as they say there is no problem, Device part number is 5Q0035874C. Software 0478.

Has anyone else have these issues with DAB?

Many Thanks

Doug

In some areas my DAB just goes silent. On a fairly long drive it might happen a couple of times. Not always a reliable signal with DAB. It does not happen enough to worry me though.

If I drive a route where DAB looses the signal, when I drive the same route again, it will still lose the signal in the same place. If it is happening to you on a regular route you take, don't be surprised if it happens every time in the same place. I guess some cars pick up the DAB signal stronger than others. I am not saying your car does not have a fault that needs fixing, just what happens to mine.

my dab doesnt work since i wired in a multiport charger to run the front and rear cameras off - even adding a couple of ferrite cores didnt help. tbh i don't miss it as use music off the sd card mainly

Ditto on my previous car (a Lexus) when I fitted a dashcam

If you think there's a problem with the reception on your headunit, you need to compare it to another Octavia rather than a Mercedes. Why not ask for a test drive in another Octavia and see if the reception is any better.

My Subaru, owned 2015 to 2019, regularly lost signal of “minor” channels, including my favourite Planet Rock! It was especially bad within half a mile of Kings Mill hospital in Mansfield, which I mistakenly blamed on the multiple aerials on their roof. I later found it was more widespread. The Octavia (2018 model) has duplicated the dead spots, BUT, it always picks up BBC 2, with no drop out at all, anywhere.

Worth trying BBC stations, for comparison, perhaps?

The switch mode voltage regulator in some of those can generate so much interference (radiated as well as conducted which is why the ferrite cores don't always cure the problem) that it completely drowns out the DAB signal.
