RE: 2006 vrS OWNERS STUTTER - SKODA UK FIX

Featured Replies

As said earlier in this thread, Skoda can't actually fix it. All they can do is tone it down with the side effect of rough idling, and not being as fun to drive. The only true fix is to do it yourself.

  • First off, well done to those who condensed the thread Couple of questions if anyone knows the answer. 1) Where do skoda dealers fit the 14.5mm gasket? Position 6 or 11? Seem to remember reading th

Pictures say a thousand words or so they say. Its good to be able to visualise what it is we are talking about regarding this modification so that more owners have the confidence to do the fix.

Thanks for the pictures - very useful.

IF it seems like almost every taxi you see in Belfast these days is a Skoda, there's good reason for it. That's because local firm Value Cabs has just taken delivery of 100 Skoda Superbs in a record breaking deal. And the

Just picked up my se this week no 770

Ive been reading about this problem and was worried about it

ive noticed on a light throttle heres a slight hiccup sometimes and when coming off the throttle

is this the problem we are talking about?

doesnt seem to affect the drive that badly and if I know what it is i can live with it so im not worried

perhaps im lucky or theyve done something to the latest ones

having said that im still running it in so whether it will manifest itslelf with harder use

haveing said the the damn thing is so fast and effortless, so far i havent needed to drive it hard!:D

Sorry guys, but I can't trawl back through the thread to find the answer to this question...

Does anyone know what happened to the guy (Kerry?) who was taking Skoda to court over this issue?

Did it actually get there and does anyone know if he won / lost?

cheers.

I guess I should give the update then as I was there!

Went back to court for the third time about three weeks ago. Case lasted from 2pm to 7pm and the judge spent over an hour giving his judgement; so I think you'll agree it is somewhat comlpicated. I sued on two counts, engine stutter and wrinkly seats. I didn't do enough to convinvce the judge that the stutter amounted to "goods of unsatisfactory quality" and even if I had he had a problem with assessing how much damages would be due. I still don't understand why and, obviously, I disagree. However, I won on the wrinkly seats, which were deemed to be of unsatisfactory quality and no repair was offered in a reasonable time. For this I was awarded

Thanks for coming back and letting everyone know the outcome Kerry. As you know, I was aware but didn't feel it was proper for me to make it public.

"WE'RE ALL DOOMED!" :(

My stutters gone with chipping - but potential problems. I've just written about it in a new thread.

As said earlier in this thread, Skoda can't actually fix it. All they can do is tone it down with the side effect of rough idling, and not being as fun to drive. The only true fix is to do it yourself.

Sorry for not trawling through the 48 pages on this - but I have just taken mine in to 'fix' the stutter. What is the issue with their fix - doesn't make the car slower does it? :finger:

Skoda will only fit a 14.5 mm gasket in the EGR system in order to maintain EUIV emmisions levels. Some owners say this reduces the stutter, but doesn't fix it completely - Skoda also say the same in their technical bulletin on the subject.

The 9mm gasket eliminates the stutter, but exceeds EUIV limits, so Skoda will not support it (and they'll invalidate your warranty if they find out you've done it yourself).

As far as I know there is no impact on performance from the Skoda 14.5mm fix.

I personally found that the 14.5mm gasket reduced the torque slghtly and made it less fun to drive.

IMHO the official Skoda fix is a waste of time. Makes the engine rough and un-responsive. The stutter improved, but only after 10 mins into journey, and even then it would show it's ugly face from time to time.

Terefore, I would say - Yes, it does affect performance in my experience.

Big thumbs up to the 9mm. Been using it for about 2000 miles and so far so good.

I've been driving my new se for near on ten days now and I haven't suffered at the hands of the infamous stutter at all.

As with my last VRS, I agree that there is some detectable hesitation on a rare occasion, but I still see it as a characteristic of the engine and one which in no way impedes my driving or enjoyment of the vehicle.

I can only presume that the extent to which vehicles are affected varies wildly, or that some of us have very different interpretations of the words 'severe' and 'stutter'.

If you're happy with your car that's all that matters; don't go looking for trouble. The stutter just did my head in in a big way and had to be sorted.

Yeh, that's why I can't help but feel that some cars must be more severely affected than others.

Oh, how I wish I had read this forum before buying an 07 Fabia vRS SE in May, I could have saved myself a lot of headaches and running back and forth to the dealer, being fobbed off. I too have a car that stutters, i don't care what the problem is but it is sure as hell they aren't going to sort it out after this length of time, so I intend to reject my car too. I've got an appointment on saturday morning with the general manager. I'll let you know how I get on.

I have just bought a SE VRS (May 07) and the hesitation at low speed is definately noticable. Shall be taking it back to the dealer at the weekend to discuss.

Gazzer

I have the same as you, bought at the same time, I'm going to the dealer on Saturday morning for an appointment with the general manager, I'd be really interested to know how you get on, I have had a gasket modification, but it's still the same, if not worse. Have you been fobbed off by your dealer saying put a few miles on it etc.?

I'm debating with myself wether to reject the car! What's your thoughts?
