RE: 2006 vrS OWNERS STUTTER - SKODA UK FIX

Featured Replies

It may be worth checking that there isnt a bored out gasket in position (6). It appears that this is triggering off warning lights. Or the light could be about something completely different as 1 light is a warning for 100's of different things.

Just come back from a 75 mile drive around the Brecon Beacons, and the only light that came on was the fuel light. I also averaged 64mpg and i have to say that it drove very nicely indeed.

So far so good then i suppose...

  • First off, well done to those who condensed the thread Couple of questions if anyone knows the answer. 1) Where do skoda dealers fit the 14.5mm gasket? Position 6 or 11? Seem to remember reading th

thanks maryvrs, ill have a look at that this weekend, it does make sense actually now you mention it. ive noticed the same sort of improvement in the car though. i go from burnley to lancaster quite a bit and sticking to around 70 i got the best part of 70mpg most of the way! then the emissions light comes on ha ha! the car runs a hell of a lot better though - much smoother both to drive and at idle so its definately a step in the right direction. more importantly it hasnt stuttered once

You've got a point there about the MOT however. I thought the test only included for a pass/fail of the exhaust 'smoke' levels, throughout the rev range (diesel car test). Anyone know if the MOT also analyses the emissions content.
When my last car was MOTed, I had a long print out which had various levels of various gases on. I can't check it now as it went with the car, but I think they check a couple of things.

I rang the dealer, said I had the stutter and they immediately knew what I was on about and told me the fix (as mentioned here) and it's now booked in to be done.

Strange, as when I asked before buying a VRS about this issue, they of course denied any knowledge about it ;), as you would expect before a potential sale!

the same here, when I asked Bickerton's in Sheffield...denial, didn't know about it

ended up buying car elsewhere anyway (sec. hand)

There is a fix on the way for the rattling/vibrating gear lever ,My new Ltd edition does it but these things take time !

:)

Cure for gear stick rattle on TDI 6 speed box - SEAT Cupra.net

On my Ibiza FR with 6 speed box on a TDi it worked a treat and I think the VRs has the same box.

Apologies for being off topic here - if it works then you may want to move this to a new thread.

There are still Ibiza's being sold with the 130bhp motor and they have the same issue except they have a dealer approved (warranty compliant) remap that gets rid of it.

Hmm, I'm interested in this as I have a stutter on my Ibiza, but both my Seat dealer and Seat customer services don't seem to know anything about this. Does anyone have any more details on this? I looked on the Seat forum and can't see it mentioned there either.

OK, I don't quite know what this is about, but I've noticed my new VRS SE is kind of jerky (a smooth sort of jerky, as though I'd depressed the clutch in and out quickly) when in third or fourth, usually when changing down.

Is this the same problem that's being described here?

If you have a Special Edition, you will have the EURO IV engine which is the one prone to the infamous 'stutter'.

There are various pieces of advise here on how to fix it. Basically you can either get the dealer to make the best of the problem or completely fix it yourself. Read the last 10 pages or so and all will be revealed. :-)

Had my VRS 06 in for 1st service today, asked about the stutter which they denied but then remembered a memo from skoda once i described the problem and knew what i was talking about, anyway they read out that skoda will not be releasing a fix. she even suggested i rev the car over 2000 to avoid the problem, hmmm disappointing skoda.:thumbdwn:

I believe Skodas attitude may be hardening following recent events, they will have little trouble persuading the public to buy the last of the fabias & once they are gone its end of the problem for them

Hopefully VAG will have employed some slightly more talented designers for the mewer models to ensure that they will no longer pass off sub standard goods to the trusting public.

They should really be more worried as the japs have finally perfected some really good Diesels, Merc have some newer designs coming out for the top of the range stuff.

VAG under the Audi banner are winning races with a Diesel yet they seem to struggle to bring a quality vehicle to the general public

WE currently have 3 Skodas, the 2 MK1 Octys are great cars but the Emission problems on the Superb combined with SUcK's attitude towards us has soured our loyalty to the brand & it looks like we will probably shop elsewhere in future. I will reserve final judgement until the next generation Octy comes out, if this returns to the high engineering quality I expect & the build quality goes back to the high standards of before then they might still be considered. The winner for them is our local dealer who are truly the best dealer of any brand we have ever had. If they change manufacturers then it would be bye bye SUcK

My 06 vrs suffered with a terrible stutter, so after advice from another owner who had the same problem I switched fuel and now only run it on BP Ultimate Diesel.

The dealer fix did not do much but when combined with the new diesel it has now almost gone. Worth the extra cash per tank(about

The Civic 2.2cdti seems to be the way to go for diesel hatch performance. It was fine while it lasted Skoda, but the sun has set on the VRS.

But why should the Owner have to find ways round a design **** up & at their expense as well ??

We shouldn't, but due to a combination of consumer ignorance, lying salesmen and a supplier that is resting firmly on it's laurels we're taking the hit.

Skoda UK obviously thinks it's excellent consumer service ratings are there forever but the Fabia has dropped sharply in the ratings this year and they don't seem that fussed, so lets make sure we rate them accordingly in future.

I loved my vRS, but I left Skoda due to poor customer service.... they'll learn.....

Will they?? We shall see.

I'm not holding my breath.

Ive had a recent 'spat' with my dealer.

I'm changing next time to someone else.

Like your experiences, the customer seems to be secondary.

If the 'new' dealer does not deliver, then its bye bye Skoda.

indeed.... I had to travel 100 miles into Scotland to find a dealer I would even consider ok..... but still not good enough..

I currently have a tiny fiat dealer in my town, and they are looking after me really well.... if they keep looking after me, they will get my custom in the future (unless of course the 'new' fabia vRS next year is irresitable lol...)

good luck finding a decent dealer, I liked bickertons in Sheffield, but unfortunately, I moved away.... they were the best skoda dealer I'd come accross...

to be honest, they are loosing sales.... i did go for a SE vRS, untill I turned up, and the salesman suddenly decided to offer me

..

I'll let you know in the coming days how mine is, but the dealer was very good. They did the mod, road-tested etc. under warranty and the car now idles better and seems smoother, so fingers crossed.

They explained exactly what they had done and had heard of the problem when I called. Service was a little slower than my Renault dealer, but they have a *much* bigger dealership with many more technicians.

Well having trawled through this thread I've fitted the 9mm gasket and as others have already said the car is transformed and not a sign of the stutter which was there previously, now smooth as silk and no sign of a dash indicator light.

Found the pictures Mouse posted very useful.

I have been asked to try and tidy this up.

If anyone has any specific useful information from this thread could you please PM me and save me wading through al 47 pages of it.

With the official dealer "tweak/bodge" it does run a little better and you have to try harder to make it stutter, but it's still there.

Has anyone found the problem disappear once it has been remapped?

(If so, which remap did you have?)

I have just bought a SE VRS (May 07) and the hesitation at low speed is definately noticable. Shall be taking it back to the dealer at the weekend to discuss.

Mine has had the gasket done. It does drive better and I have noticed the stutter is only really when the pedal is ever so slightly depressed. My fix is now to drive with my foot flat to the floor!

On a more serious note. The Seat dealer where is test drove a Leon called and I told him I was sorry but had got a skoda etc etc. When I told him of the problems a guy from the service department called me and told me about a flash update they carry out and if the Skoda dealer were not aware then they can call him to be informed!

All better now, for the time being 95% happy I reckon.

I part exchanged by 06 VRS for the VRS SE. Before I bought I asked if I would have the stutter problems like before. It was like a kiss of death when they assured me that they hadn't been aware of any other cars with the problem since mine a year ago. Get in the new one, only just pulled away and instantly felt the stutter.

Far more violent than on the last car. Between 1600 - 1800 revs, so when I'm driving around town, or in traffic and when changing down, it feels really bad, albeit for only a second or two before if sorts itself out, but was really hoping that on this (my third vRS) I wouldn't have any problems.

When the technician took the car out to test it, they looked up the problem and apparently the fix should have happened at the factory!!?? It goes back in on Tuesday for the fix.
