Skoda superb 3T estate - alloy options

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm new here, but I'm looking forward to being active on the forum. I am considering a second pair of alloys and then having one pair shod in winters, but I was interested to see if anyone has put any other alloys on the superb from the VAG family, or gone for darker colours...

What's everyone wearing? Pics?

Cheers

Demps

I have a set of 16" Dover wheels from a Mk7 Golf fitted to mine.

Interesting, they don't look like 16's at all, I thought the car would drown alloys that small out but it doesn't look bad at all....are you running these for winter or are they your daily's?

They are my daily wheels. I got sick of the 18" wheels with 40 profile tyres.

A set of Michelin crossclimate tyres in 205/55/16 + the cost of the wheels was cheaper than a full set of 225/40/18.

I run 19” summer rims and 17” winter rims. Small and narrow deals with the heavy snow and cold temperatures really well. The 19’s just look great 😂

I just went with black steel 205/55/16 Tyres given the low use the tyres have stayed on for a few years. I tried a set of 05 Octavia Vega 16” alloys they don’t look right. Might be because the offset difference. That stuff always confuses me ET45 vs ET50 I think.

I changed my wheels a couple of weeks ago. When I bought the car it had 17" wheels with 225 / 45 winter tyres. I've changed to 16" VW Golf wheels with 205 / 55 summer tyres.

I wouldn't have thought you would have noticed the 5mm difference in offset? Though maybe that and a difference in width of the wheels? If the new wheels are much narrower say J5.5 .

I had to look back at my notes

steels are ET45 7J or 7.5j on Superb

my Octy wheels are ET50 6.5J both the same 16” tyres

Well, thanks for the pics, you never can tell if smaller alloys make a car look stupid or not, I had some 18s on a seat Leon back in 2012 and it looked under-rimmed, maybe I had a hang up on that! Although 17s looked great on my Saab 9-5 and 18s looked ridiculous.

I'm not sure if the 3.6 superb would have any grip issues with thinner tyres though? Assume for winter it would be fine on the basis it won't be going fast anywhere...

These look amazing mate, very brave choice of alloys but looks spot on with the white paint. Probably one for another thread but interested to see what your shorter springs did to the ride.

The general consensus on here on some threads. 17” was a good compromise between the factory 16-19 available options. Maybe from looks and costs.

If the Superb MK2 had come with 175/80R14, 195/65R15, 205/55R16 tyre options like the Golf MK4 used to, then the 195/65R15 might have been considered a good compromise. Fortunately, the some of the lower powered 105HP diesels come with 288mm front brake discs...which means that 15" rims will fit. As standard, the Superb MK2 was never supplied with rims less than 16".

Only if you wanted to find the nearest ditch in a hurry. Superb 2 is a good half tonne heavier than Golf 4 and needs the bigger, grippier tyres. 175/195 section tyres would not be fun, especially given the tendency for a lot of owners to go for the cheapest tyres they can find.

205/55/R16 is a type approved size for the Superb 2, see linked thread for more info.

Thanks buddy. Ride is firm but not harsh. It was converted from new onto sachs shocks and kw springs. About 15mm too low to be honest as it scrapes on occasion (speed bumps, car park incline etc.). I have a set of 18” rims for summer currently as I damaged one of the 19’s unfortunately….to be fixed.1FB0004D-55AE-4BB0-B47F-AEB7F9CC9769.thumb.jpeg.d0bff913eb5290f24977908973ae19b0.jpeg

I have a set of 18" Octavia III VRS Gemini alloys on my Superb.

These look so much better than the original 16" Moon alloys the car came with, the only problem is now I need some spacers and lowering springs to complete the look. 😛

Well, after my post above I have now had to put four summer tyres (goodyears) onto my 17” winter alloys as I discovered one of my 18’s was buckled 😫🙄.  So now down in size with decent rubber.

To be honest, it drives rather sweetly on the smaller rims and aesthetically it looks okay (car is lowered so that probably helps a bit to fill the arch gaps). Tyres were cheap(er) too as a smaller size….what a pain though. I do want my 19’s back on as soon as I can source a replacement rim (or fix it).  They look great.

  • 6 months later...

I went for Audi S5 alloys with 10mm hubcentric eibach spacers despite almost everyone saying they wouldn't fit. I bought longer wheel bolts just to be on the safe side.

They are awful. Prevouly replaced 1 alloy due to pothole and the general crashing and banging is just unbearable

I want try and find some 17" steel wheels, has anybody come accoss a supplier that will does them ? I am aware of Alcor, but they only seem to do upto 16" (at least the correct fitment)

On the Superb MK2, you could use 6.5Jx17 ET38 steel rims from the Kodiaq with 205/50R17 tyres.

205/55R16 tyres are a much cheaper and slightly more comfortable size than 205/50R17. Fitting a 205/55R16 tyre to a 6J rim will be more comfortable than fitting this size tyre to a wider 6.5J or 7J rim.

Mine are 235/35/19, no crashing or banging, the car is lowered using the Bilstein B14 kit too, rides amazingly and handles perfectly. I swapped a 2016 MK7 Golf GTi for the Skoda and got £11k cash back, I'd say both cars drive almost identically. It depends what you're after in a car, a lot of Superb drivers will be older guys concerned about ride comfort, but I'm not there yet. Personally this rides and handles like the Golf did and now it's APR stage 3 tuned too the power is pretty much the same too. The Bilstein kit actually came with VAG genuine parts logos all over the box so it's obviously standard spec on some PQB chassis vehicles and I'm confident Audi don't fit weak wheels to the A5. Couldn't be happier, although maybe a set of Bentley 20's next would look good 👍
