Is it worth extending the Kodiaq's warranty ?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone !

We have Skoda Kodiaq 2.0 TDI (2019) with the warranty which is due to expire in May 2022.

We have just received a mail about extending it for another year.

What is your opinion ? What would you do and why 🙂

Firstly what spec is your car, the warranty price is often the same regardless if you have a basic spec, or a high spec (which has lot more gadgets that potentially can go wrong), so if you have lower spec your risk of failure is less.

It is often worth considering the all in one (which sometimes has 20% off), basically gives you 2 years European breakdown cover and warranty and 2 MOTs for not much more than cost of main and minor service.  So effectively getting the warranty almost free.

If you consider a warranty, check what it excludes.  A cheap policy might not cover what you need.

The alternative is to simply set up a standing order each month into a deposit account, and use that to fund any repairs, if lucky will have pot of unused funds, but if unlucky and something expensive breaks you will have to pay up.   It depends on your alternative savings and how your estimate of warranty claims.

A car serviced properly and with preventative maintenance shouldn’t fail (and if a part had a manufacturing fault it probably failed in first couple of years whilst under warranty), but if you skimp servicing and don’t get funny noises or playing up items fixed, then more likely to get problems.  Only you know if you are the kind of person who will ignore something until it fails.

Ultimately it is peace of mind, the warranty provider is going to make a profit, so the premiums will exceed the average payout.

Really depends on what the offer is.

Was in same position 2yr ago. Because of the way I looked after the car I'd have normally binned the warranty but they made an offer I couldn't refuse. The warranty itself covered everything other popular 3rd party warranties covered but at a fraction of the price. Took out the warranty but then decided to sell the car 2mths later. Again not an issue receiving a refund for the remainder of the unused warranty.

Will be in a similar position in Nov with our Karoq. I've noticed Skoda normally have a warranty offer on or around 'Black Friday' so if it's the same offer as last year, which included servicng / breakdown /warranty all under the same umbrella then I'll be taking it. They way I looked at it was I'd have needed to pay for servicing and breakdown anyway so in effect it's a free warranty.

Just my opinion.

To be honest something fishy was going on. I found the car purchase documents (3 years ago - imagine the effort to find it 😉 ) and it turned out the Suplementary Order Form says:

4 years of Extended warranty VWFS

So it seems I don't need to purchase it.

Might be an interesting conversation if you call them up and play along.

"I thought I had 4 years warranty but I can't quite remember,  would you check for me, please"

If they come back with anything other than the truth, give em hell.

I really like this idea :-)

I actually do care about European breakdown cover so instead of going for another car insurance I might go for for this "the all in one". Is it still available ?

This thread got me thinking about how much the servicing will cost on my new bear... apparently it will be £308.50 for the first (oil change) service, and then £426.10 for the second (oil + inspection).

Time to sign up for the £19/month service plan that covers both of those, I think.

@Yogi-BearAre you pricing that on Fixed / Annual Services so after 12 months then again @ 24 months,

or are you looking at Variable and First @ 18,000-24,000 miles / 24 months then again at 48 months?

1st Service,

OIl & Inspection fixed is not £308.50 surely.  @ 1 year.

If the first service at 2 years for the first the only extra over the Oil & Inspection Service should be the Pollen Filter.

I put my reg in the 'book a service' thingy, and those are the prices it came back with. It's set to fixed servicing this time around as I may keep this car long term (as my last ever ICE) and I want to look after it properly. Previous cars have always been set to variable servicing - I've gotten away with only servicing them once on 3 year PCPs 😃.

So glad I opted for the first 2 services for £159 offer when I bought mine.

Yeah... for some reason I didn't get offered that and didn't see any info about it at the time... an absolute bargain. But then I got such a good deal on buying the car, I think I can forgive the couple of hundred quid extra I'll be paying for the first 2 services.

That is on vehicles 3-10 years old on Fixed Servicing at participating dealers.

It is said that Skoda subsidise the cost.  Rubbish though.

But then there are Dealerships that charge that for 1 and 2 year old cars, and even £99 or £100 for a 1st year Oil & Filter change.

Because that is enough to do that work and make a profit.

£119 here.

Maybe some need to update their website, or maybe they are current as are the prices.
