Folding......why?

Featured Replies

I understand the idea using of spare pc capacity, but why the building of new and fresh pc's just to sit and do this folding?

Surely if you want to stick money into others pockets (ie component purchases, electric bills etc) why not buy shares in something like Huntingdon Life Sciences or any other research company?

I think people get addicted to the number of WU's and overall points.

It is nice to see your numbers going up, but I wouldn't do it myself.

I agree, use of spare capacity = , building a PC = :thumbdwn:

I like Marmite but I LOVE Bovril. It's not really going veggy is it? Political correctness gone mad

Another AWOL thread :D

He started it :D

Have to agree with Andy. It does seem a bit daft imho to build a pc just for the sake of f.o.h. But if you wanna throw ya cash away for it, it's your life.

I've only ever put spare capacity to use, and it seems as good a use as any. Can't see the point in building machines specifically for the task, either.

Depends on the level of involvement in the project as well ;)

I started off just running it on one machine, I was running a few game servers and they got too slow so they were upgraded. Instead of chucking them out, I kept them as FAH rigs. It kinda grew from there.

I have got shot of the slower ones now due to power useage vs effectiveness concerns though.

Completely agree though that the most effective use is to just run it as an idle client on whatever machine(s) you may own. That way it costs the least for relatively the most benefit.
