Bloody Drivers Seat Memory!

Featured Replies

I have a 2017 Skoda Superb and the issue is where the seat memory won't save and when the key unlocks the car the seat doesn't change position.

I decided to have a go at it myself so bought the OBDEleven Pro.

Here is the log from Control unit 36 (Drivers Seat)

I have tried going into the control module-Basic settings and running norming on all axes which completes.
have tried all the reset types Soft-Hard-key off on reset.

In live data the lumbar support height adjustment and the longitudinal position adjustment show the contents in the photos attached

The lumbar support shows not never normed?
Can anyone check if this is normal? I have cleared the fault code numerous times and run normalisation and it just won't fix even though the lumbar support adjusts as part of the process.

Any ideas, anyone?

It probably needs a firmware update as mentioned here:

My seat memory also stop working but I followed this guide with obdeleven and it started to work again 😊.

steps:

- go to: control unit driver seat(36) > basic settings > norming

- option 1: all axes + start

note: don’t sit on the chair while working 😅

I hope this will help.

Moving the seat all the way forward and then all the way back, or vise-versa, has worked for me in the past.

What is supposed to happen? My chair never moved since I bought the car.

As in it doesnt move even when you operate the controls? Or the memory function or what part isnt moving?

It works perfectly using the buttons. If I move it when cleaning it etc I have to move it back manually it doesn't do anything automatically.

Actually obdeleven does the similar but with all the functions seat goes front and up till the end then goes back and bottom.
So probably this should work manually as well.

I think @j caff you should try what @numskull said. I have read in multiple forums seat memory somehow loses default memory then this thing happens.

Hello , i'm havind this problem in my car.

OBD11 says i have no basic settings  for all seat moving parts although i can move them with the power buttons, just can't memorize seat positions.

Hi there, make sure to use the @ symbol then a name to notify people or quote it else we wont get notifications 😛

If your seat is showing no basic settings then you need to run the full routine, i personally do it with ODIS which will put the seat into a mode and actuate all directions to their stops and then save the settings. I am unsure if this can be done with obd11

Hello @ApertureS i was able to fix it yesterday with obd11 .

Thank you

I don't seem to have that option 1 "All axles"?

What options do you have? Its best to do all axis individually, if you do them all together the seat can collide with the headliner.

Well this is in danish. Hope you understand

When i try to slide to write it says it’s not possible

I have a similar problem with my drivers seat.  The memory function worked fine and the seat automatically moved depending on the key used to open the car.  Then one time I move the seat all the way back to clean underneath it and the memory function has never worked since no matter what I do.  I've followed all the instructions about move seat forward, back, up, down, tile forward, tilt back, etc, etc and then you get a beep.  But none worked.  I even tried using VCDS to run the reset function.  When doing this the seat moves in all direction but the error code never clears and the memory function has never returned.  I've given up and resigned myself to manually adjusting the seat.

Unless anybody has any new ideas on what to try.

Move the seat all the way forward. When it stops, move it forward again and it’ll move a few more MM. Then do the same in reverse. Reset the memory.

@numskull  I've tried that but didn't work.  The error codes I get are related to the lumbar support settings.

Exact thing happened to me many many years ago.

Did all the the stuff mentioned - no luck.

Car was under warranty then, so I took it back to the service centre and they fixed it by replacing the seat controller module under the driver's seat

Part number before:- 5Q0959760B

Part number after:- 5Q0959760C

Been fine ever since.

Don't work here neither 😞

People that keep suggesting moving the seat as the be all end all, it isnt sadly.

There are 6 axis positions to the memory seat - lumbar up/down, lumbar forward/back, backrest tilt, height, rake and leg adjustments.

All 6 of these need to meet a set specification for the memory to work.

The specification is for each of the above as follows: Normed, Standardized, Block1, Block2, Max travel.

The seat must first be standardized with a diagnostic tool - this will clear Block1 and Block2 and max travel and also reset the status and error counter. The diagnostic tool will then move the seat to its extremes on the axis and use this to create a Block1 input then using the data that is stored it will preempt the max travel position. The module will now show as 'never normed'.

At this point the user moves the seat to its extremes of the travel on all axis, this will confirm the Block1 to be as before, then when moved to Block2 it will confirm it is what was expected for max travel and as long as it is within the spec that was expected it will change the status to 'normed'. Now do the same for all the axis and you will hear a bong song.

The issue you are probably facing is either the Block1 and Block2 have lost a value or, if the motor has managed to skip a times (almost like slipping its timing) then when it gets to an extreme of its travel it will realize a Block1 or Block2 is beyond the stored values and loose its standardization.

The only axis that behaves any different and it depends on module coding is seat backrest tilt which is set to stop at its Block2 limit as expected, but on some, you can press the tilt back button again and it will continue past its 'safe stop' to allow user controlled full reclining without protections to the point you can crush the rear seats if you felt so inclined. And this will not throw any errors or loose the adaptations.

I have the self same issues with my seat as well. It has never worked in the time I have owned the car, I plugged my VCDS in and it reports 7 faults with it, in all of its axis there is no basic setting/calibration. How do I correct this please, using the VCDS?
